Computer Scripts-I'm having trouble

Symptoms: Clicking between tabs is very slow.  When I do switch, some or most of the content on the page is gone.  I can scroll over links, but I can't see them.  Ctrl/Alt/Del doesn't work; the only way to fix it is to restart.

When I do the shutdown, a message box pops up:

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding.  You can stop now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

The number is different each time.

My OS is MS XP Professional 32-bit SP3, and my browser is Firefox.  I don't have Google Chrome loaded or even on my disk, nor have I ever used it.

Help, please.

I only use Chrome on my XP systems, so I don't know if you have a Firefox problem.

I did see a Trojan last month that targets XP Pro. You might check that Malwarebytes is up to date and run it.

Edit: basically, it seems to be an add on problem. Try turning off your add-ons one at a time and see if any of them are the problem.

Edit²: The add-on in question may be called "Better Privacy".

I ran Malwarebytes, which came up empty.  I removed Better Privacy, and the freeze up still happens.

Guess I'll start removing other add-ons.
