What, ya'll don't know the guy I met a couple of weeks ago, the former Marine sniper who was a member of Delta Force in Vietnam who used an M1903 Springfield with a 36x Leupold starlight scope and loaded his rounds with 220 grain bullets and 200 grains of powder ("they shoot flat out to 800 yards, you see") and killed over 200 VC?

I don't believe that Leupold made a 36X scope. That's ridiculous.

Well, we weren't using luck to hit them from 22,000 feet.  :P

I doubt any of these have ever been used in combat, though.  It doesn't seem like they'd be useful outside of long-range competitions.

That would hurt.

Only the first time.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

PLF?

Posterior Lung Fiber?

AHA:  Parachute Landing Fall

Thanks, net.

No thanks to the acronym-addicted military mind (AAMM).

<veer>
I find it highly amusing that the military insists on correct nomenclature for various things like "clip" versus "magazine," and "gun" versus "rifle" and so forth on the premise that precision communication is necessary, especially in stressful combat situations.

Yet the penchant is to acronymize everything --which in and of itself leads to confusion.

Hm.

Bcause acronyms make everything cooler/more badass...I know we have spent time coming up with ones that are neat. (otherwise, apt project names from mythology are good)
Some examples of contrived (for the sake of coolness) acronyms:
PATRIOT (missile): Phased Array Tracking Radar, Interceptor On Target
And the most contrived:
HELLFIRE: HELicopter Launched FIRE and forget

PS - I would like to order a 50BMG machine gun with collapsible stock and the SEEL three point sling . I understand if I order before the end of the month you will throw in a pair of stealth battle moccasins. Size 12 please.

Why stop there, back when I was part of seal team 29 we would hand carry 81mm mortars and just brace the tube against our armor (we had to duck tape a second plate on though). Can I get invisible predator style moccasins if I order that setup?
