Thoughts on Gun Broker
« on: November 10, 2009, 02:18:45 AM »
I hate their search engine. The huge "You must place a credit card on file, which will have an unlimited credit line and we'll charge you for all your expenses" thing kinda threw me. What expenses? Are they just doing the standard auction site thing, and choosing to phrase it as threateningly as possible?

I've never had them charge my credit card on file for anything without my approval. I've purchased guns and gear from there with no issues. I'll definitely use them again without hesitation.

If the seller is a good guy, Gunbroker is a good way to buy.

If the seller is a lying dirtbag, Gunbroker is a POS.  Gunbroker is a creature of the dealers, not buyers, and you will not see them do right by the buyer.

I have never heard of them playing shenanigans otherwise.

I love the place, never had any issues, but I only make reputable sales, never bought there that I can remember. No problem with the credit card, I just let them automatically bill my auction fees.

I haven't bought a firearm via gun broker but I have bought quite a bit of brass and gun parts from various sellers.

That may change in the spring when I start looking for a 6.5x55 Swede rifle.

I have done business with dealers on Gunbroker and had no real problems.  The only time I had a difference with one of them it was because their email went into my spam file.  Cleared that misunderstanding up and all was well.

I bought a LMT 16" upper through GunBroker and didn't have any problems.

The site seems to be better implemented than auctionarms.

I haven't made many purchases because it feels a lot like a gun show, higher than normal prices :).

I purchased a stock on GB ONLY because I was able to search and find what I wanted without giving up any personal info.
IIRC (which I may not) the only person who got that info was the seller?

Yea, I'm not signed in and can search 'till my heart's content.  =|
Am I misunderstanding your concern?

I bought some 40 cal ammo on GB, the dealer accidentally clicked the free shipping button.  He gave it to me with free shipping. I expected a fight when he sent me an invoice with a shipping charge.  I explained the auction said seller pays shipping.  No argument and sent me my ammo.  Very impressed.

If any of you read "Gun Tests" magazine, they often sell their reviewed guns after the review is complete.  "Gun Tests" will now only sell their guns through Gun Broker according to the latest issue.

Just an FYI.  I'm not affiliated with either company.

I've bought three or four guns through Gunbroker without a problem. The prices were fair to very good, although that's because I back out of auctions if the price goes beyond a certain point.

What I find frustrating about the site is that you have to register in order to use the advanced search. I suppose letting anyone and everyone consume server resources would eat into profits, but it's still aggravating.

On a thread drift, when did the price of SKS rifles start heading through the roof?  A friend was thinking of getting one and someone else said they were $500 now.  He showed the gun broker search and I think $350 was the cheapest price.  I did check my recent shotgun news and it had one add for SKS rifles for $250 or a little more.

I've never tried to buy through gun broker so I can't speak to that.

My small gunbroker experience has been all positive.  I sold a pistol and it went off without a hitch and I bought some ammo which also went off without a hitch.

Other than high prices I have no complaints. An ffl friend of mine does at least half of his business there instead of at his storefront.

My GB experiences have been positive as well.  I've purchased a couple guns through them and sold some stuff.  No problems at all.

BTW, if you find something you like, but the pics aren't clear enough, contact the seller and ask for new pics or better descriptions.  I won a nice K22 this year because some lint on the front strap looked like finish damage.  I emailed the seller to ask about it and he said it was lint from his cleaning cloth.  Nobody else bid and I got it for the opening price.  Sure enough, there was no finish damage.  The Gun is a great shooter and was nearly $100 less than similar examples elsewhere.  It even has the original grips (numbered to the frame).
