If he were around today, he would likely be labeled a conservative whacko tea party member.

Boehner & McConnell would likely say the same about Ronald Reagan.  =(
Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

he is one of my favorites to use as an example when my liberal friends deny the Dem party has shifted far left- they always seem to believe it is the fox news watchers who have shifted to the right- makes their eyes bug when I tell them Fox news would have been a center left station forty years ago.

JFK was a crappy prez though- he ushered in one of the most pernicious things ever- something even the liberal Icon FDR was adamantly opposed to- the establishment of public sector unions.

As a former fed, I 100% agree with this. There were no unions in my section of the govt, but it always boggled my mind that federal employees, essentially in a union simply by being govt employees, also had unions. The ones that blew my mind the most were the unions for all the govt lawyers.

Otherwise, I do wish Republicans would mention quotes and policies of past democrats, like Kennedy, when the dems rake them over the coals. Instead they just sit there and take it.

I've often speculated about what might have happened had JFK not been elected president, but instead stayed in the Senate as the Democrats became more liberal. My guess is that he would have followed his part, and moved further to the left, and made fun of Reagan's tax cuts.

By and large Republicans are ashamed of the positions their constituency makes them take

For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

True enough. Establishment Republicans would like to get along with Democrats by supporting "reasonable" amounts of socialism, and establishment Democrats would like to get along with Republicans by supporting "sensible" Second Amendment privileges.  It's the fringes that demand redistribution of wealth (one issue) and the full 27 words of the 2A (another element) that drive the establishment nuts.

I guess that puts me on the fringe, because (1) the Second Amendment isn't a "privilege," it's a constitutional guarantee of a God-given right; and (2) the "full" 27 words of the Second Amendment are about as clear and succinct as can be, yet more than 200 years after the words were penned, and in the face of piles of historical supporting documentation showing exactly what the Founders had in mind, we are still arguing about what "shall not be infringed" means.

Seriously?

Hawk, turn up the gain on your sarcasm detector.  That'll smooth things out just fine.
