It's a flying squirrel-like wing suit.

Have you guys seen the ones with the two miniature jet engines strapped to the legs? Then you can literally fly, landings are still done by parachute.

I remember a movie about a flying suit like these. The premise was that you could forget yourself and "fly" right into the ground. Not the hero of the movie of course.

[Rocky the Squirrel voice] I'm Batman.... [/Rocky the Squirrel voice]

I'd rather just hit the ground than wear that.....  undecided

he, the guy in the first picture, was on the today show this morning. evidently, with a glide slope of 3:1 he feels he can land without a parachute (he actually was talking about jumping out of the plane without a chute). he is just looking for the proper landing strip. a long sloped surface like a ski jump landing ramp would be appropriate.

Looks a lot like the "Flying Capes" of the old Flash Gordon serials (circa 1938) . . . and, since you still need a parachute, they work about as well.  rolleyes

I find this underwhelming.

That's not flying, that's falling with style.

I wonder how his obituary will read after he tries that.

He wanted to make a splash in the world of skydiving.....instead, he made a splat......

As mentioned they have been around a while.  One of the more famous guys a few years ago ate it into a bridge they were trying to "fly" under video taped and everything.  The guy he was flying with made it under the bridge landed, looked for his buddy and couldn't figure out what the small particles landing on him were.  Although cool, these guys like to push it to the max.  I believe he will attempt landing without a shute, and if not him it will be someone else.

No, they cannot fly.

They can GLIDE.

Big difference...

Even if he flaps his wings extra hard, he's still going to land.

If jet-boot-boy had one of them conk out mid-flight his terminal spin as the other jet drove him outta control would be a crowd-pleaser.  Once.

Either that, or an engine fire.

So there was some technical validity to jumping off the second story roof with a bedsheet as kid.  cheesy  If we had only known how to sew.

Just had a thought - I wonder if they could stall one of the things, at the right spot, next to something tall enough to land on...

Anyway, seems to me they'd generate a little more lift if they connected the arm wings to the legs, so that there was more surface area.

Something like this:

I wonder if you have to use steel or other non-toxic shot to fill your tag for this season...... Wink
