Article on an investigator for the Denver Department of Environmental Health.  He is now having to investigate marijuana complaints, with the legalization of marijuana.  Added to the list of devices that I didn't know existed.

If someone farts, do they send out a Rump Ranger?

Saw that on "How Do They Do That" or some such show - very precise instrument for determining subjective levels of odor.

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

Hey you kids!! Get off my lawn!!!

They keep making this eternal vigilance thing harder and harder.  Protecting the 2nd amendment is like playing PACMAN - there's no pause button so you can go to the bathroom.

I don't know whether to weep at the stupidity of the government officials that buy that thing or marvel at the entrpeneurial genius of the guy that made it and sold it to the government.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Sort of agree, but also glad that a scientific olfactory measurement device exists so that human subjectivity is removed from what appears to be a prosecutable criminal or fineable civil action.

Money quote:

The Nasal Ranger — the conelike contraption that Siller attaches to his nose — dials in the strength of the odor. Almost never does the smell surpass the 7-to-1 dilution threshold.

It hasn't happened since 1994.

Almost 20 years without a violation (although they hassle a wood burning pizza place and did try to fine a company that didn't exceed the threshold and the company sued the city.)  I'd say that the law is stupid and needs to be repelled and Mr Nose needs to go find a non-government job.

This ranks up high up on the list of the stupidest things that .gov does with tax money*.

*- This being Denver, so at least it's not my tax money.

Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.
