Title: Romney calls for increasing minimum wage
Post by: Balog on May 09, 2014, 12:06:36 PM
So sad that we ended up with a socialist in the White House instead of someone severely conservative like Romney.

http://www.latimes.com/business/jobs/la-fi-mo-mitt-romney-minimum-wage-20140509-story.html

Quote
"I think we ought to raise it because, frankly, our party is all about more jobs and better pay, and I think communicating that is important to us," he said.

Quote
He noted that income inequality has widened in the five years Obama has been president, though much of that is because of the impact of the Great Recession, which started in late 2007.

Quote
"I also believe the key for our party is to be able to convince the people who are in the working population, particularly in the Hispanic community, that our party will help them get better jobs and better wages," Romney said.

Keep on trying to be centerists, Republicans.  The socialists won't vote for you, and the conservatives won't vote for you either.  And your party will die off.

Lemme give you a hand there, Mitt.  What you are in effect doing is trying to convince people to vote for Democrat-Lite.  All the same programs without the stalinist boot on the throat.  I don't know what you guys are paying Rove but it is evidently too much.  Anyone with a functioning brain cell would prefer the genuine article rather than some washed-up, white bread imitation of a full monty democrat socialist.  Keep it up and the Stupid Party will lose in an epic collapse of support.

. . .  Keep it up and the Stupid Party will lose in an epic collapse of support.
And entrenched Republican politicians will respond by blaming conservatives and the Tea Party.

Quiet, you!

It's not the republicans' fault they lose... it's all those dang tea partiers, fiscal conservatives, and libertarians who aren't blindly pulling the lever for whatever ahole the GOP puts in front of them.

Silly voters, thinking they should actually vote for who they want.

Why will this guy not just go away?

Dude, no one likes your *expletive deleted*it. That's why no one voted for you.

I think one of the problems is that he actually seems to be a nice guy. There's little in common in the Ben and Romney political Venn diagram, but I'd have a beer with the guy. If he was Peter King, more people would hate him, but sometimes our lowest common denominator voting public votes for the guy that they "like" the most, not the guy with the best game plan. I like having a beer with one of my best and oldest friends, but I'd never in a million years vote for him for any public office.

Yeah, he's a Mormon, there, Ben.

Sounds like he's gearing up to get back in the race. I mean, Bush is trying to run for the fourth time; why shouldn't the Glove?

If we are going to elect a socialist clown shoes to be president, I'd rather thst mr clown shoes has a (D) after his name than an (R), though that is mattering less and less with every (s)election cycle.

You'll get as many answers as Mormons you talk to about it, but in that realm coffee and tea specifically are what we are to abstain from, not caffeine per se. As caffeine is not called out in the letter of the law, whether it violates the spirit of the law is left to personal interpretation.

If I have a bad night with the baby or otherwise get too little sleep, I won't hesitate to down a 20 oz. Coke when I get to work, but I specifically avoid making that a daily or otherwise too-frequent thing as a caffeine addiction violates my personal interpretation of the spirit of the law.

Or in other words, I'm sure ol' Mitt would be fine having a Coke with Ben.  ;)

Hey Marnoot, are you aware of any books of Mormon theology written for the great unwashed?  I'm looking for something like "Mormonism for the Stupid" with short words and big pictures.

There's always the appropriate entry from the "For Dummies" series: Mormonism For Dummies (http://www.amazon.com/Mormonism-For-Dummies-Jana-Riess/dp/0764571958). I haven't read that one so I can't vouch for its quality. One I've referred curious friends and associates to in the past is Our Search For Happiness (http://www.amazon.com/Our-Search-Happiness-Russell-Ballard/dp/0875799175). It explains the basic tenets, history, and beliefs of the LDS church, and is a pretty lightweight read. I think have an extra copy of the latter rattling around in the basement. If you want I could track it down and mail it to you. No pictures though... :P

I am pretty sure that if you ask nicely, two nice young men will be immediately dispatched to explain everything to you!

Thanks for the LDS info.

I used to have some Mormon neighbors, in SoCal, and their kids (7 or 8 of them) were the best behaved kids I had ever seen! I'm good with Mormons but, Mitten Romney ain't one of them!

I'm not a Romney fan either. I did not vote for him in the primaries. I held my nose on election day because I genuinely thought he'd at least be better than 4 more years of Obama. Maybe there wouldn't have been much difference.

Sounds like me.

Fortunately, I'm somewhat relieved he didn't win because I knew there was a chance he'd be worse. (For example: gun control, immigration, and now minimum wage.) At least with a Dem in the White House the Republicans make a show of opposing those issues. With Romney, I'm sure all of them would have passed by now.

So, my conscience is clear that I didn't knowingly vote for the continued destruction of our country. I'm also relieved because I was not sure Romney would have been better. (And the more he talks, the more sure I am that he wouldn't have been.)

I think their would have been significant differences.  Romney would have done stupid stuff.  We wouldn't have had Obamacare, but Romney might have tried to pass some sort of Obamacare light.  The Repubs probably would have passed some form of Amnesty which would suck.

On the positive side, Benghazi probably would not have gone that way if it happened at all.  I doubt Romney would have been so quick to kick out the leaders of Libya and Egypt like Obama.  Not sure of Romney's stance on Afghanistan after getting Osama.  We seem to be languishing there now accomplishing very little.  Overall, Romney would have done dumb stuff, but I don't think he would be actively trying to destroy the country.

Looking at specifics, there are probably a lot more differences good and bad.  Hard to say what the Democrat media would be harping about or trying to push Romney on if he had won.
