Celebrate by buying a lot of fireworks and blowing up a small portion of the nation you love!
-
and posting it on facebook
-
Nothing is better than having an official day to celebrate the fight against our original deep state!
Happy Independence Day!
May we become independent again some day!

Happy Treason Day from Festung Ben, Idaho territory. My flagpole just arrived yesterday and dang it, I coulda had a Betsy Ross Flag arrive in time as well. Oh well, I'm lucky I just got the stupid pole up. Poured quickcrete yesterday, and mounted it this morning. It's one of those telescopic ones with a dual locking system for each section, and I was having a hell of a time this morning with "righty tighty, lefty loosey" (because with this system, lefty is tighty and righty is loosey).
I wanted to have a cannon here as well, but with all my other expenses, I couldn't swing it this year. By next 4th that brown grass will be all decorative rock and the cannon will be next to the flagpole.
Anyway, hanging around the house today with my "We the People" 1911 strapped OWB, and bought some good old American red, white and blue Budweiser to drink.

nice!
Mason City Fireworks last night, hitting the river rapids today after this storm blows over, had an extended high water season, so still a lot of class 1 and class 2 rapids in the smaller rivers. Clear Lake for fireworks tonight. It's an amazing show, they shoot a boatload of fireworks from several barges on the water. It is usually one of the best shows in the upper Midwest.
-
Spent a good part of the day so far in the pool. Very nice.

Oh Mr. Dickinson, I'm surprised at you. You should know that rebellion is always legal in the first person, such as "our rebellion." It is only in the third person - "their rebellion" - that it is illegal.
-
River was good, water was high enough to shoot a blown out dam, nice 3 ft drop in the water level, took on about 80 gallons of water during the drop in my solo canoe. Hit a boulder and about dumped it, survived!
I need to figure out a auto siphon system for my canoe. I have an Old Town Pack Canoe.

That prop job (Warhawk?) is at WOT and those jets are having rudder shake and hearing "STALL WARNING! STALL WARNING!"

Royalex, or canvas-on-cedar?
-
That prop job (Warhawk?)
Mustang.
-

Not a Warhawk. I thought it was a P51 Mustang, but the tail is too rounded on top. Maybe a P47 Thunderbolt.
{Edit} Nope -- not a Thunderbolt. Either a P51, or maybe a P-39 Airacobra.
-
Yup, Mustang
-
Another vote for P-51 ..... mainly because it is a P-51. Mustang. If you wanna get persnickety they were reclassified as F-51 after the U. S. A. F. was created in 1947

Royalex

You're killing me here

This seems to be the exact Mustang in the photo http://www.mustangsmustangs.com/p-51/survivors/serial/44-73029
-
P-39 Airacobra.
The P-39 had a shorter, pointier nose, and the cockpit was at the leading edge of the wing, the engine was right behind the pilot. Not very common, most of them were sent to Russia during the war.

Pretty much wrong on all counts.
It's a P51 mustang. WOT for the mustang is near 400 knots. The stall speed on an F16 is around 160. F15 is like 130 and the A10 is like 120.
They are all operating well within their performance window.

The P-39 Airacobra was one of those missed opportunities of the war. Somewhere along it's development as an interceptor someone decided to to omit the turbo-supercharger and go with only a single speed supercharger to reduce cost. What resulted was an aircraft with great performance as long as it stayed below 12,000 ft above that it turned into a dog. Apparently along the line someone forgot that an interceptor kind of really needs to perform above 12,000ft. As a result it mostly shipped off as lend lease with some being relegated to close air support in US service, some of which received the P-400 designation. It's successor, the P-63 King Cobra, really more or less a refined P-39, fixed the turbo-super charger issue and by all accounts was a superb fighter but by this time the Army AF was getting supplied with the later models of the 38, 47, & 51 so most 63s were shipped off to the USSR.

Shows how little I know about planes. In my defense, I DID correct myself on the Mustang. Can I get partial credit?

You only get credit for making it up as you went along on that one.

That technique gets me through life.

How the heck do some of you not recognize a P-51D Mustang?
Thunderbolt? The P-47 had a radial engine. That's not a radial.

Thanks. I was confused as I didn't know what a "get" was.
-
Damn, I missed that... Fixed. Thanks
-
If you're not a dyed-in-the-wool aficionado or pro, it's relatively easy to get the model numbers themselves mixed up, even if you know what the plane "is."
I had to look up WOT, EGTC.
-
I had to look up EGTC as well.

Look at your rights and freedoms as what would be required to survive and be free as if there were no government. Governments come and go, but your rights live on. If you wish to survive government, you must protect with jealous resolve all the powers that come with your rights - especially with the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Without the power of those arms, you will perish with that government - or at its hand. B.E. Wood

So you're saying he's more functional than most?

Even Given The Context. Hell's bell's, I've got a right to make up arcane acronyms. It's an unenumerated right in the Constitooshun. Left to the States. Or to the People. Or me.
You should read it as "I had to look up WOT, even given the context."
Just another skirmish in my losing battle against the stupid overuse of stupid acronyms. Nothing personal, you undertand.

Well, so far as we know he hasn't crashed yet, so he must be functioning at least around mid-range.

Wouldn't that be an initialism instead of an acronym? (I figured out WOT from the context, had no idea what an EGTC was)

I just figured he was from Emily Griffith Technical College.

Has that thing got any wheels? The photo makes it look so low that it looks like it was built to generate ground loops.

Uhm... that Currie WOT looks one hell of a lot like a De Haviland Tiger Moth. As in, very hard to tell the difference...

I hope you guys aren't diluting the true sense and impact of that remark. Besides, if you recall, you can't fill a Kelly Bundy-style head with too many facts.
-
Russian revolution, Bolshevik revolution, same thing, same time.
-
I thought I qualified that remark as being a jape at leftists in general pretty well:
Yowsa. It has been said that one of the biggest social problems we have today is that most Leftists think that all history began the day before yesterday.
Dates of the Russian (or any) revolution are irrelevant to the attempt at humor.
I make no claim to originality since the concept appeared earlier in APS by someone else. Note the "it has been said."
