The Good but Obscure Bands thread

I recently discovered a bunch of bands from the 90's that are amazing, but have since broken up. I really wish I'd known about them when they were together and touring, so I thought I'd start this as a venue to share exciting new or obscure bands. A lot of great music out there, and most of it will never be played on a radio station. So if you know a great band that we probably haven't heard of, this is a place to share it!

I'll kick it off with "The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets." Ignore the emo name, they're a talented and fun band. I'm a sucker for any band that does songs based on the Cthulhu mythos, time travel, and mythical creatures. :D

Hi Balog!  I have listened to the three links you posted, and although they aren't really my thing (I'm usually into much heavier music), I can relate to finding some cool older bands that I wasn't aware of when they were together.  Below is one band that I discovered many years after they weren't around anymore:

This is a band I really enjoy, sort of a Sublimey sound to them. I believe they are still around but never hit the main stream.

I don't know who's obscure anymore, as I haven't listened to any pop stations in years, none of my friends are "hip," and I don't go to shows/concerts or keep up with the industry.  I just heard Yankee Bayonet on Pandora, and really liked it for some reason.  I've only heard two or three more of their songs. 

She's not a band, but Cat Power just blows me away.  I love almost every song I hear from her.  But I'm a sucker for girl singers, anyway.

Friends of mine. You can't really see him but the drummer is "Rob the Drummer" of Sesame Street fame. All three of them are superb musicians and very well known in Progressive Rock circles

here's another that shows a bit more of the guitar work. The drummer in this one is not Rob but "Hutch" who is also known as "The Egghead". The Egghead got re-fired right after this tour because he's a bit of an egotistical tool. Tony said, "It was great having him back at first but as soon as we got to Japan it was the same old Hutch"

I guess these guys have been around a while, but I just heard of them this week.  Checked out some of their music online and wasn't really impressed.  Then tonight I got to see them live and they are really great!  They have terrific range and energy and are fun to listen to.

One of my more favorite bands is a group called, "X". They were popular in SoCal during the mid 80s. I have most of their albums.

Goat Ropin Bastards.  Definitely NSFW.  My favorite GRB song is "Never gonna get my guns".  You haven't lived until you're at a packed bar filled with folks screaming "Never gonna my guns, cuz they'll never find all of them, they're buried all over the county" at the top of their lungs.  Gives one hope for the future generations.  "Deer Season" and "Bong Hits For Jesus" are also pretty good.

"Tryad" strikes my fancy, esp if you like down tempo Massive Attack kinda music. Of course I've only heard 2 of their songs... :)
