The high-end Japanese-made toilet, which also plays music and deodorizes the bathroom, incorporates a fully automatic flushing action, a heated seat, a massage feature (don’t ask), and “soft lighting."

All the extra *expletive deleted* (pun intended) means there is just more that can go wrong.

“The My Satis Android application has a hard-coded Bluetooth PIN of 0000,” Crowley explained. “As such, any person using the application can control any Satis toilet.”

Why in the *expletive deleted* is there a need for an smartphone application for a toilet?  Oh that's right see the first quote.

I think the underlying problem isn't so much that "smart toilets" have been hacked but rather the existence of and perceived need for "smart toilets" itself.

All my toilets are analog, 3.5gal flush units.  One with add-on analog bidet.  The other will get the bidet upgrade soon.

That and the existence of computerized toilets were my first thoughts as well. But then again these toilets were invented in WTF Japan.

I can still remember using an outhouse in the winter.  We had a "smart stick" that you used from time to time to knock down the accumulated frozen tower  :P

Merchandising geniuses....

Somehow I'm reminded of a $2.95 el-cheapo 4-banger calculator I bought which had "Solar" printed on its front right under the solar cell, just on the general principle that every man could always use an extra little calculator to play around with.

OK, but when it died a year later, notwithstanding the fact that it was charging under a desk lamp much of the time, I decided to rescue the solar cell inside it just on general principles... that principle being that every man could always use an extra solar cell to play around with.

Four little Phillips-head screws later I made the interesting discovery that the solar cell was merely a cardboard printed picture of a solar cell.

No wonder it didn't stay charged.

I've got a Texas Instrument calculator that is charged by artificial light or sunlight.  My 45 year old son found that calculator when he was in the 7th grade.  It's still going strong.

Anyone who thinks there's a good reason to spend $$$ on a COMPUTERIZED TOILET   deserves to have it hacked, and at the most inconvenient times in the most embarassing manner. (Hmmm . . . does it include a webcam?  :O  )

I wonder what Drew Carey ("The Price Is Right" game show host) could do with this concept on his show.  (One of my favorite comedians, BTW.)
