(Disclaimer: my daughter has been hounding me for years to sign up with WhatsApp, I keep telling her its a security risk, and she keeps telling me I'm wrong.)

If you have a way to easily communicate with people from your smart phone, without a company collecting and selling metadata, I'm all ears.
FWIW, Signal is in the midst of a bruhaha because the keyboard software they use is insecure, and can be keylogged.
WhatsApp has never been a "good" security option, just "better than most other choices out there".

Don't have it, not sure I've ever heard of it.

It’s very popular outside the USA. My guys in India use it all the time. Lots of people in Europe too.
