that being stuck in the office on a beautiful Sunday afternoon when I could be doing so many things at the house, including playing with my dogs?

Nothing is what.

As much as I bitch about France, the wine is good, the cheese exceptional, the cathedrals magnificient, and the Loire River Valley indescribable.

Whenever people gripe like that I always remember my older brother, the hospice doctor.  His days regularly include 35-45 year old men with small children dying of rare painful cancers.  Somehow compared to that being stuck in an office doesn't seem so bad.

OK, we have a perspective winner.

But I would agree that there are not enough beautiful sunny Sundays to make being stuck in an office a worthwhile use of them.

Mike, 100% agreement about the Loire Valley.

Lets see..... sitting in front of a video camera waiting to have your head sawed off?  Holding your dying baby daughter in your arms on Christmas day?  Having your best friend killed by a psycho?  Watching your wife puke from pain?  And then there are the everyday events like compound fractures , chainsaw cuts and gruesome car accidents.
If you have your health and your family is OK you are blessed indeed my friend.

On the other hand, looking out my window right now at the sun dappled waters of my lake.  A cool breeze wafting throught the imature oak leaves, the flag fluttering at half mast.  The smell of newly minted flowers adding a perfume to the air like nothing else.
The dark, lush green of a Michigan spring lawn.  The knowledge that a young, healthy mole is doing his magic to my neighbors lawn....ahhhhh.

Mike, just console yourself by thinking about all the carcinogens and sinus-antagonizing pollens in the air, through which flies hungry, West Nile-bearing mosquitoes.  Wink

Grampster- You are truly a vile foe if you wish the visiting of moles upon your neighbor.  I have been battling those little blind, furry bastards for over two years and they still delight in tearing my yard up.  About ready to give up and let them have the front yard if I can just salvage the back.

Well, you could be stuck in Florida, sleeping on an air mattress in your buddy's spare bedroom (who is cheap and hates to turn on the AC BTW), knowing full well that you would be WAY more comfortable in your own bed in your own, newly-purchased, house in NC with your wife and dogs...all while trying to find a job, ANY job, 800 miles away.

So put THAT in your pipe and smoke it.  Tell me again why it is so hard for a hard-working, relatively bright, 30-something guy to find a damn job...I must be missing something here.

"HA!  The meister's right here, baby!"

Oh really? Wanna trot your dikshunarie out again and look up perspective and prospective?

Nah, I'll do it for you, and I don't even have to crack a dictionary...

No, the Rabbi's not a prospective winner. Prospective refers to an event or action that may happen in the future.

I already declared him a winner --

He provided the best view into why my situation yesterday didn't suck nearly as much as other possibilities.

Perspective is a noun, prospective is an ajective.

In my sentence, perspective stands alone in the same manner that race stands alone in "He's the race winner."

Ergo, he's the PERSPECTIVE winner.

I remember you saying that before but exactly how does one go about getting security clearance unless employed by someone that can get the clearance for you?  Is this a process I can go ahead and start working on on my own?

In the post-9-11 world, probably not, unfortunately. At one time you could get a secret clearance done fairly quickly and inexpensively.
