Title: Do you drink?

Just curious if you drink alcoholic beverages or not.  Feel free to share any related experiences if you wish.

Thanks!

Edited to add: I drink, but very infrequently.

Nope. I've had various forms of alcohol in the past, in small amounts usually. But alcohol and I just don't get along physically speaking, and I don't enjoy its effects either. I also don't like to go to places that focus on serving it, nor do I like to spend time around those consuming it. Not my thing, to be sure.

When I was in the Army, I used to have one or two drinks from time to time and smoke cheap cigars.  Nowadays, the wife won't let me.  And since I'm a deacon, I told the church I wouldn't, either.   smiley  I don't think it's necessarily immoral, but - anyway, nobody wants to hear me preach.

Never been drunk or high, though.

I drink when I can (being 19 and having no friends makes acquiring booze difficult at best). I've only ever been "drunk" once (stumbly and giggly, but not sick), and tipsy a couple times before that.

There were whole years in my youth when I was drunk, hung over, or both. I thought life was grim. Come to find out, it was me.

"Alcohol is the piss of the last leper in hell." Blackadder

I don't drink at all. There were only two exceptions. Once got drunk at a dinner with wine with friends; hated the altered gibbery lispy state and never tried alcohol again. The second time was by complete accident - apparently teramisu cake has quite a bit in it, and I love cake.

OK.

The Long Island Iced Tea Incident

Back in the early 1990s, my friends B, E and myself would habitually end up a particular Metal Bar in Denver.  Occasionally E's roommate D would go with, but he was a drag since he would tack out, get all down on himself ("I'm a skid-mark on the panties of life") and want to walk 15 miles home in blazing sun sans shirt or freezing cold sans jacket.  So D stayed home that night.

B, E & I went out that Saturday.  We took B's black over yellow '72 Ford LTD coupe (with the 'Grandma at the wheel' bumper sticker) since E did not have a license and I drove the week prior.  B was upset over his suger-momma Gfriend T dumping him, so wanted some strange that night.  We ended up at the Metal Bar as usual, and they were having specials on Long Island Iced Teas.  After the obligatory round of shot & a beer, B started buying LIITs and scoping for some of that strange he was after.  E & I were content to just absorb the atmosphere and the EtOH.

The night progresses and B is making good time with one lass, and so in a good mood and continues to fund the LIITs.  E & I had no objections to B's largess, so we keep sucking 'em down.  'Round about 01:150ish I decide I'd had enough atmosphere and told E I needed some fresh air and I'd meet B and he at B's car.

I'm out there in the soft summer night, happily identifying the bugs drawn to the lights when I see a car drive past the parking area of the Metal Bar, then roll back and the passenger exchange words with some other bar patron.  Said passenger drunkenly gets out and procedes to charge equally drunk bar patron.  They fall to the ground, flail at each and roll around on the ground like two drunk guys fighting.  This was when B & E make their appearance, and B wants to get in the middle of the two drunk guys fun.  E grabs him away, since the local cops have taken an interest in the two drunk guys fun.  As B & E come closer, I can see that B is scowling.  The lass that he was making such good time with went home with some other dude, and B is pissed.

B comes running up to the car and shouts out "I HATE THIS &@%#! CAR!" and plants his right foot on the drivers quarter panel, leaving a nice dent and a clear boot print.  Knowing B's car, I call backseat since I know the belts in front don't work worth a darn.  B drives, and the entire drive home he's shouting curses, punching the roof, pounding on the dash and using two lanes all by hisself.  E keeps looking back at me and mouthing "We're gonna die".

Surprisingly, we make it back to E's apartment in one peice.  Car is parked and we all pile out.  Seeing how D is still around but asleep, we decide to pay him back for all the embarrassment his tack-out sessions have given us.  B, E and I launch into a loud newspaper fight to spoil D's sleep while shouting for D to get the frell up and cook us breakfast.  Fun progresses until D gets up and calls us all a bunch of cloacas.  Mission accomplished, E & D go back to their respective beds while I grab a pillow, blanket and a strech of floor, leaving B the green horror of a couch that had at least three distinct curves to its seating area (I'd slept on that horror before and found the carpet over concrete floor much more comfy).

Dawn comes, D & E are still sawing wood but B and I are starved. B complains about being all stiff and sore while I chuckle knowingly and draft a note for E, then we head for breakfast.  As we approach B's car, B curses agains and asks "Who the %@$!#$ kicked my car?  @&!*!"

To which I reply "You did last night B.  You did."

After that *I* got Dragooned into driving on the nights out.

I'm drinking Momokawa sake right now, actually.  That count?   grin

I don't drink regular American 'beer', with the exception of a couple microbrewery lagers.  I'm fond of decent wine, good vodka, excellent whiskey and various 'exotics'.

There were a few years there that I was at the bar 4-6 nights a week. I was 21-24 so I assumed it was age appropriate and it didn't bother me much.

Then I grew up a bit and found that guns were way more exciting than booze. I hardly touch the stuff anymore. I could probably count the number of beers I've had in the past few years on my fingers.

Now, just recently I moved to Korea. Not a whole lot to do over here...especially since I don't have my guns. So I go out on the weekends and start with a few margaritas then progress to soju and beer. I'm sure I'll stop once I get home again.

I started drinking because I wanted to see what getting drunk felt like. Over a few years I tried tequila, whiskey, gin, brandy, a big bottle of Bacardi 151 for breakfast once and a few wines. I drank straight liquor, mixed drinks and drank on an empty stomach. Nothing worked & it was a waste of time/money. I'd get a buzz, but no matter how much I drank I couldn't go beyond that. And then one party night I was given a big glass of something green and warm. Started feeling strange. Power-barfed in mid conversation. Fell on my butt giggling hysterically. Slept very well, woke up feeling really mellow, thought "This is great!" and that ended my quest to get drunk. No pain, no misery, and no regrets so I decided to leave it at that.

Intermittently. If I'm out with people I don't really know then I'll often tell them that I don't drink, I find it isn't the social stigma that many claim that it is. The why's - last time I went out with a group of people I didn't know most of them got very drunk, one of them to the extent that what seemed like gallons of fluid exited his stomach and he passed out. I like to be sober, helps with dealing with the situation.

Personally I find a little alcohol is a decent social lubricant, I'm not much of a talker socially so a little helps, too much and I talk too much. I've learned what the right amount seems to be.

Other than that, I occasionally enjoy a craft-brewed beer like a traditionally-made porter, oatmeal stout, or dark ale, especially the "caramel porter" varieties. None of the corn-adulterated cheap, evil-smelling domestic swill, ever. The smell of that stuff makes me ill.

Wines, only if they're sulfite-free, otherwise it gives me a pounding headache.

And favorite hard liquor is RUM. Dark, dark, Jamaican rum aged in oak casks, my fave being Appleton Reserve. :9

Illegal drinking was fun, extending the 'never been asked for ID' boast for as long as possible. I don't thrive in smoky atmospheres so the pub became an occasional socialising thing rather than the 'thrill' of the the illegal.

Looking back it was blatently obvious that I was underage, but I was a paying customer. Still, I didn't get ID'd until I went to Edinburgh with a mate who looked about 15, I was 23 at the time.

Once in a while I'll have a beer or two. Years ago on the way home from the bars I'm told I laid down on the sidewalk and asked campus cops to draw a chalk outline.

Oh boy do I  grin , as far as I am concerned its always noon somewhere in the world. Dirty vodka martinis are my fave. I find Chopin vodka to be the best IMO nothing like real Polish potato vodka. I also enjoy a good glass of scotch from time to time either Johnnie Gold label or Blue label does it for me. If I am just loafing around the house any beer except for Busch or PBR works well enough. Hell I will drink anything except for Southern Comfort. When I was 15 me and some friends stole a fith of the 100 proof SoCo and I must have drank a third of the bottle to myself. Projectile vomited, passed out, and woke up every 15 minutes or so to puke. Once everything I had in me was spilled onto the ground I spent the rest of the night dry heaving. I tried SoCo mixed in a drink a few years later and about had an alergic reaction to it, even the smell of it to this day makes me nauseous.

Now days I stop drinking once I reach a good buzz. I no longer have any desire to get totally wasted when I go out. Laying in bed trying to stop the room from spinning just isnt fun anymore. Guess I'm just old now  sad .

When we got turned away from a pub, we would just go back to the gentleman's bar at the local comunity centre, where all the old dudes would hang out, and drink Murphy's, Whiskey, some Lager, and British Ales. We were both members at the club, even though we were 15/16. I just put my date of birth as 1982 on the form, rather than 1985. Cheesy

My first experience with alcohol was at about age 4 - I was "helping" my father clean up the attic when the phone rang - he went down to answer it, and I discovered that his beer tasted much better than my soda, so I finished it.

I slept most of that afternoon.

Around 7th or 8th grade, my buddy and I made a still - the apple brandy we turned out was pretty good, but the potato vodka was terrible. We sold it to his older brother, who in turn sold it out of his locker to other guys at his (Catholic) high school. (His dad was a Chicago cop. shocked )

High school brought the occasional beer - my buddy knew all the bars in Chicagoland that would serve minors, so we made the rounds of quite a few watering holes. More than once the rest of us ended up literally carrying him out of a bar or party. (BTW, he's now a commercial airline pilot.)

College was, well, college . . . but I can honestly say I never drove while drunk.

Nowadays, it's just an occasional beer or vodka & tonic or Southern Comfort . . . I don't have a real high tolerance for alcohol, and if I drink too much, I don't have to wait for the hangover until the next morning, I get it right away.  sad

(BTW, I never tried any "recreational" drugs other than alcohol. Period.)

I enjoy social drinking, and drinking while eating.  A beer and a burger on the weekend.  A good bourbon and a cigar in the evening.  A glass of wine complimenting a nice steak.  A nice bottle of wine on the back porch while reading a book on a spring day.  A Sauterne with seared fois gras.

I used to drink on a regular basis.  Not as a problem, just a beer here, wine there, etc.  I'd probably have 10 drinks a month.  When I went camping for a weekend, I'd take a 12pack or maybe even a case if it was going to be warm.  Nowadays, I drink very little, I go a month or more without a single drink.  I still take beer on my camping trips, but it's more like a 6pack for a weekend.  The only booze I have in the house right now is earmarked for recipes.

I started cutting back when I found out how much alcohol made my triglycerides go up.  Diabetes is a problem in my family and alcohol doesn't help that either.  My drinking was never to the point where it would contribute to health issues, but it was an easy thing to cut out, so I did.

Where in France do you live ?

Sunday lunch in the South of France, same as in Italy, lasts three hours, starts with an apperitif, Pastis for men and a Martini for the Ladies, continues with different wines for the different plates there will be stinky cheese with Bordeaux of course, then on any given sunday there will be coffee (espresso) followed with  cognac ar armagnac and a little cigar and on special occasions there will be champagne with dessert before the liquor, and it is frowned upon to appear drunk after that because it is only lunch.

Most of the time I'm just happy to go straight to the beach afterwards or better have my wife who doesn't drink drive me there.
I tend to drink too much, but I think spending time with your family for three hours around a table is a good thing.

I changed my line of work two years ago but before that for ten years drinking belonged to my job on a daily basis  shocked

I'm settled now and done with the chicas, but if it wasn't for drinking I think I would have to die alone since  not once during
my younger years I managed to, well, getting over the awkward
conversation  into the merging. I just couldn't do it, so I drank a lot and I scored some.... grin

Too long in the tooth to drink.  Funny how responsibilities can limit your fun!  At 37, I think I average a beer a month.  I believe I had maybe 3 or 4 glasses of wine at nice dinners last year.

Have not hard any hard liquor since my 10 year high school reunion--Vodka Collins with Finlandia vodka was my drink.

I have a excellent selection of hard liquor and wine at my home.  It sits there and looks nice in the dining room. grin

I've been drunk only once- but it lasted three days. We would get drunk in the evening, wake up drunk and just as it was wearing off by the next evening we would drink some more. At one point, I decided that i would have to go home eventually (this was in high school at a friend's house during a long weekend and i believe a "snow day"), which involved a drive, so i stopped. that was the one and only time i've been drunk (though i've been tipsy a few times), and it was enough for me. Kind of difficult to enjoy drinking when one is responsible for the lives of others 24/7.

Ain't that the truth.  When I was in High School and early college, I could drink like a fish and the only ill effect the next morning would be slightly sore joints.  Now?  Forget about it.

Rihaku Dreamy Clouds Nigori.  I tried that one, but was not overly impressed.  Not bad, but not worth the price I paid for the bottle.  Nice color on the bottle though. Smiley

It's no longer "Dude, I can do this all night!".  Now it's "Have a second one and call it quits."  I got stupid at my brother's b-day last year.  Never got out of control but I was definitely on the other side of the "tipsy" line.  Problem is we were there all afternoon and most of the night.  I ended up consuming more beer than any human has a right to. 2 beers an hour doesn't sound like much until you realize it's three in the morning.  And you got there at noon the day before.

It took three days to start feeling normal again.  That's enough for me, thanks.

Yes, but not to excess anymore...just can't handle the after-effects.  I have a beer, or sip a small tumbler of liquor, almost every night.  I love red wine to, but my stomach doesn't...so I rarely drink the the stuff. I have to admit, I do enjoy getting tipsy when my work and family schedules allow for it.

My Favorite Jimmy Buffet song

God's Own Drunk
By: Lord Buckley
1974
"Well, like I explained to y'all before I ain't no drinkin' man. I tried it once, and it got me highly irregular and I swore I'd never do it again. But I promised my brother-in-law that I'd go up and watch his still while he went into town to vote.

It was up there on the mountain where the map said it would be. Friends let me tell you one thing though, it wadn't no ordinary still. It stood up that mountainside like... like a huge golden opal.

God's yellar moon was a' shinin' on the cool clear evenin', God's little lanterns just a' twinklin' on and off in the heavens and, like I explained to you once before, I ain't no drinkin' man, But, temptation got the best of me, and I took a slash... (wshew!... woah...) That yellar whiskey runnin' down my throat like honeydew vine water, and I took another slash. Took another and another and another. 'fore you knew it I'd downed one whole jug o' that *expletive deleted*it and commenced to get hot flashes.

Goosepimples was runnin' up and down my body and a feelin' came over me like, somethin' I'd never experienced before, It's like, like I was in love,

("why don't we have a little love Mike [Utley]")

In love for the first time, with anything that moved... animate, in-animate it didn't matter. It's like there's a great neon sign flashin' on and off in my brain sayin, "Jimmy Buffett there' a great day a comin'..." 'Cause I was drunk.

Now I wadn't, uh, knee-crawlin', slip-slidin', reggy-youngin', commode-huggin' drunk, I was God's own drunk, and a fearless man; And that's when I first saw the bear.

He was a Kodiak lookin' fella 'bout 19 feet tall he rambled up over the hill 'spectin' me to do one of two things: flip or fly, I didn't do either one. It hung him up. He starts sniffin' 'round my body tryin' to smell fear, but he ain't gonna smell no fear, 'cause I'm God's own drunk and a fearless man. It hung him up. He looked me right in my eyes and my eyes was a lot redder than his was. It hung him up.

So I approached him and I said, "Mr. Bear, I love every hair on your 27 acre body. I know you got a lotta friends over there on the other side of the hill. There's ole' Rear Bear, Tall Bear, Freddy Bear, Kelly Jair, Relly Bear, Smelly the Bear, Smokey the Bear, Pokey the Bear; I want you to go back over there tonight and tell 'em I'm feelin' right. You tell 'em I love each and every one of 'em like a brother and a sister; but if they give me any trouble tonight, I'm gonna run every Goddamned one of 'em off the hill."

He took two steps backwards and didn't know what to think. Neither did I, but, being charitable and cautious, well hell, I approached him again. I said, "Mr. Bear, you know in the eyes of the Lord, we're both beasts when it comes right down to it. So I want you to be my buddy, 'Buddy Bear.'" So I took ole' Buddy Bear by his island sized paw and I led him over to the still. Now he's a' sniffin' around that thing 'cause he's smellin' somethin' good. I gave him one of them jugs of honeydew vine water, he downed it upright, (looked like one of them damn bears in the circus sippin' sasparilly in the moonlight.) I gave him another and another and another 'fore I knew it, he'd downed eight of 'em and commenced to do the "bear dance." Two sniffs, a snort, a fly, a turn and a grunt; and it was so simple like the jitterbug it plumb evaded me.

And we worked ourselves into a tumultuous uproar and I's awful tired, went over to the hillside, and I laid down, went to sleep, slept for four hours, and dreamt me some tremulous dreams And when I woke up, Oh, there was God's yellar moon a' shinin' on the clear cool evenin'. And God's little lanterns just a' twinklin' on and off in the heavens, And my buddy the bear was a' missin'... yeah, you want to know somethin' else friends and neighbors, so was that still.

"That's a take. Wait, could uh.....you missed it?"

Many of my high school friends were of German Lutheran ancestry.  Man, those guys could drink.  The kids, the parents, the siblings, the elderly infirm grandparents, ALL of 'em drank like fishes.  "Milk and cookies", they'd say.  "Milk" meant anything brewed, and "cookies" meant anything distilled.  I never drank much myself, and they thought that was freakish.  Nevermind that I was 16 or 18 at the time, as were their own children.

I don't drink. I had the occasional taste of beer or wine from my dad or grandpa when I was a kid, but never found the taste of alcohol appealing. When I turn 21 I'll probably try a few drinks, just to see if age changes one's perception in any way.

I used to have one every now and then, but it consisted of some of the finer things, like single malt or pure pot still (Red Breast) whiskey, neat, and usually just one shot glass at home before bedtime.

I lost a brother to a drunk driver.

I have a 110lb stepson who cannot understand that he doesn't need to down 4 MGD or Rolling Rocks each weeknight, and then give his mom $hit because she's trying to get him up and dressed for work by 7:30 AM. He also camps out at the local watering hole, then calls us at midnight:30, two hours after we've called it a night, because he's totally $hitfaced and wants us to pick him up, the cabs quit running at 11:00 PM.  I about burst a vein in my forehead a week ago when it was 17 below zero ambient and he called at 1:00 AM.  I almost wanted him to try walking home.

He drove home drunk a couple months ago, showed no remorse when his mother and I caught him, and at that point I basically wrote him out of my will.

Kinda ruins the whole "having a drink" experience, so I just plain don't do it. I can live without it, compared to others.   sad

I had that attitude until I got to college.  My first night there (at 17) my roommate's older cousins showed up with jello shots, vodka, whiskey, tequila, you name it (all of the eight dollar plastic bottle variety.)  I got completely blasted, and spent a lot of the next year and a half doing so until I met a girl who didn't appreciate alcohol the way I did and changed my ways.

I still drink now, and when I drink, I drink a lot, but I don't go out with anywhere near the frequency I did in those days.  And every month or so we'll have some people over, buy a case or two of something good, and play Xbox until we pass out on the couches.  Nothing wrong with it as long as no one's getting behind the wheel of a car.

I drink.  Normally not very much, a beer or 2 with dinner.  If we go out I normally drive so I might have one beer with my food and thats it.  Every i dunno 3-6 months Ill go out with friends and drink too much.  Not usually to the point of being sick, just to the point of being loud and dumb.  We laugh and tell storied the end.

My brother wants to become a brewmaster and because of him I have learned a lot about good beers (including his home brews)  Ive also taken to learning about good scotch, very good vodka, and only the best of burbons(my favorite)

Sorry, but nothing good comes in cases.  grin

As teenagers, my friends and I used to party 6-7 nights a week.  We'd drink until we could no longer walk to the fridge to get another beer.  Being underage and broke, we couldn't be picky about what we drank.  We'd pay a homeless guy to go into a store and buy us stuff that I don't think even he would drink! I drove drunk too- hundreds of times, which I am not proud of- and thankfully never caused a car accident.  Whether it's a good thing that I never got caught is debatable; it sure saved me a lot of court costs and legal fees! Those were some stupid, crazy days.

So stupid and crazy, in fact, that I quit drinking at 21.

I'm 29 and recently started again, but not nearly to the capacity as when I was younger.

I'm a beer snob, and while I don't mind getting a little relaxing buzz, I drink for taste.  I'll have 2-3 beers in the evening, always at home.  I've never been one to hang out in bars, and I'm not about to start.

Occassionally, I'll have a drink.  A beer on a hot day, or with certain foods for dinner.  Wine very rarely, and usually only if someone else is serving it with a meal.  I grew up in the cold war Army, and learned to drink my vodka straight.  Still do, on occassion, if it's good vodka.

All the beers and most liquors get along at the party unless tequila shows up last and causes trouble, then party's over, everyone gets thrown back out the entrance door.  grin

I live in PA now, where the law states you can't buy anything less than a case except at a bar, and bars only sell crappy beers (except for the bars at microbreweries.)  The upside of that is you can find Yards, Flying Dog, Arrogant Bastard, Chimay, and all kinds of other excellent beers in cases.  Stuff that doesn't come in cases the beer distributors sell in pallets of four six packs.  So yeah, I can get good beer in cases Smiley

Vodka7, there sure are some strange laws governing alcohol, aren't there?

If you go on the Sam Adams website (my favorite beer) and browse through their varieties, there are a few that cannot be legally sold in certain states.  My best guess is that some states have 150 year old laws limiting beer alcohol content.

Anyway, here in Michigan, you can't find good beer in anything larger than a twelve pack.  Many of them come in only six packs, and much of the best stuff is sold as single bottles only.

I have plenty of great drinking memories from my school days (and one or two bad ones, usually involving large quantities of tequila).  I did enough when I was young to satisfy me.  I still like beer and try to drink a few when I get a chance, occasionally on a Friday or Saturday after work, but that's about it.  I might have a glass of wine at a party or dinner if it's appropriate (you know, the kind that's too fancy to serve beer), but I have no desire to drink it at home.  I haven't had any hard stuff in about fifteen years.

I guess when you're of the high school/college age, getting drunk sounds like fun (and most of the time it was), but as you get older and away from the social environment that was ripe for the activity, it loses it's appeal.

Good beer is still good.  smiley

I drink, but I haven't been drunk for a long time.  I usually get a few local craft brews and sometimes a box o' wine.  If I have the scratch I'll pick up a bottle of higher priced liquor a few times a year. I like to try different combinations.  Good beer (NOT mass produced pilsner!) and table wine are the only alcoholic substances I'd rank as absolutely essential as a food.  But I do think you're missing out if you've never high end wine or the best hard liquor.

I got drunk during law school a fair amount as a way of getting rid of stress.  I once drank an entire bottle of Bombay Sapphire and smelled like gin for a week!  I don't think I could manage that now.  Anytime I even start to get a buzz my aged body just wants to sleep.  One or two beers is usually enough to knock me out.

Nope, not interested.
Every time I see someone drinking, even small amounts, I see things I don't want to go through.

That's strange.  What is it you see?  I've had the experience of drinking wine that runs more than my paycheck per bottle, and with filet mignon and some shitake mushrooms it was one of the greatest moments of my mouth's life (esp. since I wasn't paying!).  And I really like the local brews.  They're not always good, but they're always interesting.  To shun a beverage because it has some quantity of alcohol in it has never made any sense to me.  It seems a bizarre relic of puritanical zeal.

Some folks can't stand the taste of alcohol.  Had an ex like that.  Any trace amount, even in cooking, made her nearly physically ill.

And yes, excellent wine is hideously expensive for a reason.  I had a glass of wine that was nearly a hundred years old that probably cost four or five digits.  The vineyard that created the wine was swiped out during the FIRST world war.  Cigars, fine whiskey and fine wines are a more expensive habit than some controlled substances.

Yes!  Ther are some wonderful merlots and zinfandels out there that cost less than $20 a bottle - and we both love Irish coffee made with Jameson's 12 year when there's no option but to declare a bunny slipper commute day.

Beyond that?

A beer with a good Italian meatball sub, or pastrami - but that's about it.

If we have a drink over lunch or dinner at a restaurant, it's ONE.

EMS is pretty effective in curbing any impulse to drink and drive.

A fair amount in college...mostly centered around some kind of drinking game (beer pong, quarter bounce, the century club, etc.).

Not very much now and not to intoxication.  I enjoy an occasional beer, especially microbrews, exotics, and home brews.  The cheaper stuff is ok, but if it is my turn to bring something, it will not be a domestic macro.

I don't drink any more than I used to.  Don't drink any less, either.

A doctor told me if I didn't quit drinking, I'd go deaf.  I told him that I liked what I was drinking a lot better than what I was hearing.

I don't drink anything stronger than pop, but that ol' sumbitch'll drink danged near anything.

Ya know the difference between a drunk and an alcoholic?  Us drunks don't have to go to all those meetings.

Halfway serious:  I was around enough alkies in my younger years that while I didn't really worry about my own drinking, I kept an eye out for any pattern.  IOW, did it get to be a "Have to have a drink" or "Well, okay, why not?"  For me it was the latter.

Patternless.  Sip along day to day, dry spell, little party, sip, sip, big party, dry spell.  I like drinking but it's no big deal.

The main thing, I guess, is that I'm uninterested in drinking when I'm alone.  Oh, maybe a sundown beer if I've been working, but that's about it.  A rare after-supper brandy, on occasion.

I don't much like to be around people except when I'm in a good mood, so I guess that at worst I'm a happy drunk. Cheesy  "Drunk", though, is a really, really rare thing.  Been a long, long time.

Probably oughta do something about that...

I drink beer now and then.  Usually Labatt's or Miller Hi Life when I do.  I like to sip on Red Breast Irish whiskey.  That is my favorite.  I also enjoy a good single barrel bourbon from time to time.  Single malt scotch whiskey such as Glenlivet or Glenfidich is a fine distraction.  I also like vsop cognac or a fine vsop brandy.

In fact, a nice semi sweet wine enhanced with a dollop of brandy is pretty good too.

I guess what I'm saying is when I drink, I like to drink good stuff. Anything worth doing, is worth doing well.  I drink a couple times a week, usually on Wednesday nights and on Fridays when we usually go out to dinner with our crew.  Usually get a bit tipsy on both those nights.

And, when your momma threatens to kill you if you take a sip of alchohol, it provides encouragment not to touch the bottle.

This reminds me of something funny.  Years ago, my father did something illegal that landed him in medium security prison for 9 years.  He said they used to brew their own makeshift alcoholic drink, using (as far as I can remember) whatever fruit juice was available and bread. Of course, this was against the rules, so they'd brew it in tied-off plastic garbage bags and hang it above the ceiling tiles.  Occasionally, guards would move a tile and poke up around in there with a nightstick.  If they weren't careful, they'd bust a bag open and get soaked from head to toe with rot-gut hooch!

Air time in an Abrams... I'm not sure I want to know...

I used to drink quite a bit: don't really drink much anymore. What I do drink is mostly unavailable in stores: a friend makes an awesome butter-rum, and I make a mean meade (only have one bottle left at the moment: have to do something about that)...

Last time I was drunk was Sarah's fault: she was introducing me to friends of hers at the Ren Faire (after hours), and they ALL had interesting stuff to taste. Some were supprised I made it back to my shop...

Only ever drove under the influence once: had a second martini at a bar, and got rushed out (they decided to close early). Cop stopped me, and administered a FST: I noticed my eyes weren't tracking properly, and told the cop there was no way I was getting back behind the wheel. Somehow impressed him, and he only gave me a warning...

Yep, tequila shots with cheap beer chasers. Lots of them.
The problem most folks have with tequila is that they've gotten lip-walking drunk on really bad stuff (if it has Cuervo in the name, it qualifies as bad), and that has soured them from ever trying the really good stuff.  Good tequila is akin to good bourbon or scotch...you get what you pay for. In the "plastic bottle" varieties, you can actually taste the chemical additives!:barf !

...putting a poison in your body. I also do not get why people like to get drunk when it produces a horrible hangover later...

A hangover is is your bodies equivalent of the seat belt buzzer/bell in your car. Well seasoned over-indulgers learn to negate the hangover by learning the "tipping point" their body has between "nicely buzzed" and "hangover drunk", which is a bad thing from the perspective of long term alcohol use/abuse as it serves to remove the short term consequences of over-indulgence without negating the long term conseqences.

I know several **heavy drinkers who almost never get hangovers, and to my knowledge are never drunk enough that they aren't in control of their bodies.

**"Heavy drinkers" is a value judgement of course. These people might just be considered regular ol' "drinkers" by some people. Six or seven beers every evening after work and eight or ten on weekend evenings is what I refer to.

I think it's relative.  A six pack after work doesn't even approach what I would consider heavy drinking, unless the person is maybe 130 lbs or less.  It's a lot more than I'd drink daily, but, based on my observance of others, I'd say a six-pack or 3-4 glasses of wine is pretty average.  There are enough people that drink 12+ beers, a bottle+ of wine, or 500ml+ of liquor a day to claim the "heavy drinkers" name.  Then there are the full-blown alcoholics who easily drink twice that much a day.  There are also the people who claim they only drink socially, which may be true, but some do it two or three times a week and drink so much they pass out.  I guess these are what you'd call problem heavy drinkers with alcoholic tendencies.

Enjoy your beverage of choice.  Drink it responsibly.  Don't run me over.  Seek help if you think you have a problem.   smiley

Never had the opportunity.  My company was more interesting in destroying brand new Apache Longbows than in sitting in them.  To shorten a long story, the gunner and TC both thought the turret was facing downrange, but it was facing toward the helo-pad down the street.  Turns out a hot helo engine looks just like a simulated truck target through the infrared.  Who knew?

Did I tell that one before?  Anyway, being a Bradley driver was a great gig.  I had my own easy chair to sit and read in or sleep in, as the mood took me.   smiley
