Terrorist attacks in Norway
« on: July 22, 2011, 12:31:16 PM »
Bombing in Oslo, not a lot of information yet but there appear to be two fatalities. Possibly a car bomb, judging from the blast size and pics of wrecked car at the scene. Apparently a radical Muslim cleric was just sentenced for threatening death to policemen if he is deported. I'm sure that has nothing to do with this. Also reports that a gunman dressed as a cop has shot up a youth camp.

Appears the Prime Minister was slated to speak at the youth camp that was shot up.

Preliminary reporting is the shooter was "dressed as a police officer." I would not be surprised if he WAS a police officer, given muslim attempts (and successes!) to infiltrate critical areas in this country.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

There's photos of the explosion.  Initial thought is that Energy & Oil Department was the target, but the explosion was in the government district.  Norway is one of the largest and the most stable oil producers in the world.  Probably relating to the trial against Mulla Kreka.  Looking over the photos, I really doubt it was an accident.  It was likely a car bomb.  Good news, looking at the photos, it looks like the brick on the target building acted like ablative armor and kept the main concrete supports from being significantly damaged.

Majority of the injuries were from glass and other small objects caused by the overpressure.  If they had installed security film over the windows, casualties would have been a lot lighter.

Also, there was a shooting, it took place on an island used owned by the Norwegian Social Democrats, the ruling party.  Someone dressed up as a police officer and attacked a summer camp for a political youth organization.  Ferries are cancelled from there now, people are trying to swim to the mainland.

Be nice if there were more Norwegian immigrants to the Middle East, in response to this.  Perhaps in longboats.

I won't be surprised if half a dozen groups take responsibility all at once.

Maybe because of this? http://www.brusselsjournal.com/node/722, but then why weren't the Danish attacked first?

Updated to 7 killed in the blast. Unconfirmed number of dead at youth camp, but the shooting and bombing now appear to be linked conclusively.

Reports are that the shooter has been captured, and he is a stereotypical tall blonde Nordic in appearance.

Reuters is saying they have reports from the cops that 9-10 people are dead in the shooting. No word on what kind of gun was used. Do Norwegian cops generally carry long arms?

If ever there was a moment for the blood eagle to be brought back, this is it.

I have read that the Blood Eagle was a way for prisoners to demonstrate their manhood. Some even asked for it over a less-painful form of execution for this reason.

This person has not earned it.

MSNBC quotes a witness as saying a 'machine gun' was used.  The false policeman called for the campers to gather around him and then opened fire.  I think Norway is very big on the MP-5, so I wonder if that was it.

Tragic for sure.
Of course the solution to prevent such a tragedy is more stringent gun control on the law abiding citizens.

Latest news from Norway: Probably no muslims this time, looks like we got our local Thimoty McVeigh...
As for casualties the most accurate report is "more than 10 and less than 50". Apearantly the target was "Oil and Enegy Department" and The Labor Party summer youth camp  =(

Norway: A norwegian is arrested (apperantly "red handed") and he is (according to the Prime minister and police) part of a nazi-gang/party/organisation.

Norwegian cops generally don't carry handguns IIRC, atleast it used to be like that. Handguns are in a locked container in the trunk of the car.
