I heard that the attendees were not allowed guns, and that metal detectors were used. Has anyone seen that reported?

Yes.  I read this on the CNN site last night.

On one hand, they at least took some responsibility for that by having armed security.  However, it would have been better if they let armed people bypass the metal detector by showing their CHL.

However, if you're not going to allow people to be armed....
They basically had a swat team as security judging by the photos.  It gives me warm fuzzies to picture those two jihadis being ventilated.

Imagine they figured it was going to be an easy score and didn't expect the security.  Drive-by became plan B that failed.

CNN is now reporting that both assailants (one has been identified) were wearing body armor and carrying assault rifles.  They were both engaged by an off-duty local police officer working security, who used his service pistol to kill both attackers.

Excellent shooting by the officer. Kudos.

CNN reported it? Then it's most likely false.

But hey, at least they're forced to agree with Lapierre's good guy with a gun formula.

Washington post mentions 'some kind of body armor' as well.  Which makes the 'off duty traffic officer working as security' all the more impressive killing them with a pistol.  Must of shot them in the head or something.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2015/05/03/gunmen-shot-dead-in-texas-after-opening-fire-outside-prophet-muhammad-cartoon-show/

Reviewing other sites, it seems that the cops released information that the suspects* were wearing body armor and carrying assault rifles.

*Probably referred as such by force of habit and shortness.  'wannabe terrorists' might be more accurate, but longer.

If they were still sitting in the car, the head is a pretty good chunk of the visible target anyway.

A cheap plate carrier without plates doesn't offer any protection, but looks like 'body armor.'

I was kind of wondering about that swat team...
They look like some pretty hard dudes, not your average police or even swat.
ex-.mil almost certainly, ex-SF maybe...

A lot of the better funded police department swat teams resemble SF types in mannerism and physique.  They have time to train more.  Less funded departments swat officers are usually patrol with extra training and they carry their gear in their car.

Also, in large metro areas like that, departments can pool resources for SWAT; each one having a few officers of its own for fast response, but also mutual training and aid agreements for the other small cities nearby, so that at need, any of them can call on a huge team.

Ok, makes sense.
Around here, SWAT guys are the patrol types .

Report I saw this morning the two virgin meeters, do they get their virgins if they don't kill anyone, actually had got out of the car and had started to shoot up the place.

Still amazing only one good guy injured.

Looks like the FBI has been looking at one of the shooters for some time. Strange they outed there informant for such a minor charge.

I guess we all have been expecting this chit to start here.  No one seems really surprised at any part of this event.  We have let millions of muslims into America, let them ferment over in their terror training centers, er, mosques, and then sit back and wait for them to act.   The FBI knew about these guys, knew about their training centers, and did nothing.
My guess is that a lot more of this stuff is going to be  happening across the country in the near future.

I respect the FBI more for 'doing nothing' than for 'doing something' if that 'something' is illegal or unconstitutional. Its still better to deal with real crimes than using shady people as an excuse to arrest, prosecute, or harass people for thought crimes or pre-crimes.  I can't give  such glowing reviews for other major federal law enforcement agencies.

Thing is with at least one of these, it appears they were a bred and born American.

They want credit for that?

It isn't so much about the fail as to the fact that they can hit us.

Trade two of them for one minor leg wound? That's the sort of attrition that they cannot win.
