No need to insult the employee. He could be quite bright, and still not notice the condition of the firearm.
I agree. Gun sticking in my face? I might only be noticing the barrel. Doesn't take low IQ to become fixated.
Plus, remember that the chucklehead was out on probation for previous armed robberies. I'm no expert but he looks bigger than the clerk, probably stronger, etc..., and while his gun isn't operable at the moment as more than a club, I'm less likely to be injured just handing the money over. $100 or so of MY money isn't worth getting pistol-whipped over, much less "the man's".
As others mentioned, lacking tools or training, going even for the inoperable gun is very risky.
Let the cops worry about it.
