Title: Firefox spell checker
Post by: RealGun on February 03, 2006, 02:44:50 PM
The new version got rid of my Spellbound spell checker, saying it was not compatible. I don't find anything on the Firefox site except for Linux. Any spell checker  ideas for Win XP SP2 Home Edition? I post here because this is the spell checker I need for these text window posts.

Me too.  Just wait a couple of weeks and they'll write and update for it.

A new version of Firefox installed today. I decided to check once again for a spell checker. This time I used Google and came up with the goods. There is a new Spellbound. Get the low down here:

http://laurenceo.com/2006/03/17/new-spellbound-spelling-checker-for-firefox-15/

Skipping those instructions about how to find the downloads, here are the actual links:

Spellbound update:

http://exchangecode.com/spellbound/downloads/spellbound-dev_20060108.xpi

Respond to the banner messages that the site was not allowed to install software. Select Edit and Allow.

Download, close, and restart Firefox.

Here is the link for the new dictionary (US English):

http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/dictionaries.html

Click on the link to install into Firefox rather than Thunderbird. Respond to the banner messages that the site was not allowed to install software. Select Edit and Allow.

Works for me. Spellbound is now active again and worked to compose this message.

Hmmm...seams like a lot of work just for a plugin that only works in the browser.  Next time an update kills it, look into QuickSpell http://www.fornada.com/html/products.html Works within and outside ANY browser.  Works in MS Word, Word Perfect, Y! Chat, Notepad, etc...  About the only thing it does not work in is a command prompt.

This is the one needed within browser text edit frames as used on this site, THR, and others to compose and reply to posts.
