Trigger stuff
« on: October 04, 2019, 02:46:31 PM »
I think they changed something in the Mandela matrix. I could have sworn that most rifles and pistols came with a double-stage trigger. There’s a certain amount of take-up (the first stage), then the trigger gets heavy and breaks (the second stage). But a very precise trigger has one stage of light, consistent trigger pull. That’s what you would want on a target rifle, or something for long-range hunting. I thought was what I’ve always read or heard about triggers.

But in shopping for an AR-15 trigger, I find that the bog standard trigger is described as single-stage, and everyone wants the $300 double-stage triggers, with a pull weight of .0005 ounces.

plz halp

I think I’m going to go with one of the cleaned-up, polished-up mil-spec triggers from ALG.

As I always say, one has to learn to rise above lousy triggers.

WHATEVER YOUR DEFINITION OF "INFRINGE " IS, YOU SHOULDN'T BE DOING IT.

Don't be cheap, plenty of two stage triggers out there that are great unless you absolutely have to have the rifle go hang every time. I personally want a Giesselle drop in, but just for a match gun.

I just want a good example of a mil-spec trigger, and the ACT gets lots of good reviews.

I still want to know if I'm the only one who's confused about "stages." I really thought 2-stage was the norm, and a minute-of-flea trigger was a single-stage affair.

Two stage is the norm if you grew up around good milsurps. If you were broken in on deer rifles then single stage is more normal. I treated my 2lb rem 700 like a grenade with the pin out. I lit it off once while it was still a few inches of my shoulder. Surprise!

I prefer the two stage like you. My M-1a is perfect, just does pass tech at a high-power match, second stage just over 4.5, very crisp.
