Why is my floor wet?
« on: September 02, 2006, 07:18:14 PM »
This is a problem that has been bugging me for a long time. It's not an everyday thing, but more of rather a once every other week thing. I wake up and get out of bed and like 2 feet from the front of my bed is a huge wet spot on the carpet. At first I thought it was my brother's cat but the spot don't smell like anything. I then though maybe my waterbed was leaking, but obviously not because my sheets are dry. Then I thought maybe it was a leaky roof, but there was no rain. All I can think of now is that maybe there's water or something coming up from under the house and soaking through the floor. This is such a weird thing and it's making me go nuts trying to figure out what's going on. Any ideas?

It could be a lot of things, except that you only see it in the morning.  Have you checked it at other times of the day?  Could it be that your waterbed leaks from underneath, but only when you are laying on it?  It could leak from beneath without affecting your sheets.

You should also see whether this spot is close to a pipe for a sink, a tub, a dishwasher, a refrigerator, whatever might be on the other side of the wall.  There could be a drain or supply pipe leaking inside a wall, with water running down the wall, and onto your floor.

Yeah, there are pipes under my house running under my floor but they don't seem to be leaking.

With a water leak, you usually need to look above the moisture, not underneath.  Is this close to a wall, or in the middle of the room?

Well my room is rather large and the wet spot is like maybe 4-5 feet from the nearest walls.

Odd.  Got a yellow or brownish stain on the ceiling, perhaps?  That usually means water leaking from above.  It could be coming through a light fixture, as well, leaving no visible stain.

What's above your room?

Is your house on a concrete slab or do you have a basement?

Do you have HVAC venting running under the area?  There could be condensation built up from that.
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Going with the HVAC stuff...
If you have a register over it there could be condensation forming inside and coming through the register.
THis would only be if there was a register directly over it.
Being 5' from the outside wall I doubt this is the case.
A duct running under it, I doubt could cause it.
My expert opinion remains:  Haints.

I have this hunch that Maser doesn't know what a haint is.

Stetch or prop something elevated over the spot where the water is. That'll tell you if it's coming from above, or tentatively from the side.

Two chairs and an old blanket ought to do it Smiley

I can remember visiting my grandparents as a child. It seem granddad would have to answer the call of nature during the night, and get a touch confused. Always had to watch for the wet spot in the hallway in the morning.

You don't sleepwalk, do you? Wink   Smiley

Good luck on finding the source, haint or otherwise.

No, I never had that problem.  I have lots of trouble sleeping.  I do remember falling out of bed a few times as a kid. Can't say that I walk around the house peeing in my sleep though.  Oh God I sure hope my room isn't haunted by the water ghost.

I could tell you the story about the housemate's friend. Or the other story about the other housemate's friend. But you have trouble sleeping as it is.
I do not like, when with me play, and I think that you also
