Chavez is at it again - Interesting prelude to 2012?
« on: October 26, 2008, 01:52:26 PM »
Venezuela's Chavez wants to jail a rival politician just prior to an upcoming election.  The rival just happens to be the governor of an oil producing state, and is running for mayor of the state capitol.  Look ahead to 2012 in the US, if Palin chooses to run for POTUS.
I doubt Obama would go that far if the opportunity were to present itself, but it makes for a delicious parallel.

Venezuela's Chavez wants to jail rival

CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez threatened on Saturday to imprison his main political rival, intensifying a campaign against a man he calls a crime boss just a month before he faces tough regional elections.

Opposition leader Manuel Rosales, who lost to Chavez in the 2006 presidential vote, is governor of the oil producing state of Zulia and is running for mayor of its capital Maracaibo.
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

He ought to work on keeping the lights on in that socialist paradise, that would do more to deflate his opponents. I say how could anyone be so stupid but then I remember California has plenty of blackouts too...
