The standard treat around here is a kit kat.
The local tradition is that you need to tell a Halloween joke to earn your candy, in lieu of a trick.
And this mean mom claims the candy if I do not here a "thank you" from my lil monsters!

Why did the ghost not cross the street?

Because he did not have the guts!!

So here is some news we can use in terms of popular Halloween candy.  This is based on a survey on Facebook, and I found the article here: http://celebrate.today.com/_news/2012/10/23/14648273-best-candy-to-hand-out-on-halloween-the-internet-has-spoken?lite

I had already gone out and bought several bags of Kit Kats, so it appears as if I am still in the ballpark.  I never would have guessed that Skittles are so popular.

Facebook results for candy

Here are the top 10 most-liked treats on Facebook:

1. Skittles, 23.55 million likes
2. Starburst, 11.5 million likes
3. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, 10 million likes
4. Kit Kat, 9.4 million likes
5. Twix, 5.16 million likes
6. Snickers, 4.8 million likes
7. M&M'S, 4 million likes
8. Sour Patch Kids, 3.89 million likes
9. Life Savers Gummies, 3.28 million likes
10. Hershey’s Kisses, 1.97 million likes

I can't believe Skittles and Starburst beat out the likes of Reese's PB Cups, Kit Kat, Twix, Snickers, M&Ms, etc.

We don't give out candy anymore.  When we did pass out candy, if the  kid was old enough to vote, we'd give them ketchup, mustard or hot sauce packets from fast food joints.  Just palm it and put your hand down into their bag.  They'll never know.  Pennies are also a good one, little kids love it and big kids don't.

I bought a 7 pounds bag of Starlight mints at Sam's Club.  Everybody likes those, but they don't like them much.

No way you can go wrong with chocolate... it is a drug after all.

So my wife, the elementary school teacher, and I were in Target yesterday.  She pointed out that Frito-Lay (or somebody like that) is now putting out an assortment pack of snackbag-sized chips (Fritos, Doritos, Sun Chips, etc.) to be given out as Halloween treats.  She told me that these are really popular with the kids.

She saying the kids like chips, or is she saying they like them as Halloween treats? The former seems obvious, the latter sounds fishy. I'd say the kids are expecting candy, and anything not candy is going to be a disappointment. Unless it's a pony or a real fire engine.

Hmmm...

I got chips a few times. I don't recall being pissed off by it. The salt content was a nice contrast to all the suger and put off the moment when all the candy gourging became sickening rather then fun.

Homemade candy and fruit sucked (because even of I wanted it, it got confiscated by Mom) licorish was ok because it was what convinced Dad to keep up with taking me trick or treating several years past when he would have said "no more!"

But high chocolete content was always good.

Its sad.

Kids and parents around here are downright lazy. When I lived in a house, keep in mind this is in a neighborhood not rural or anything, parents drove kids house to house. At most they'd park and hit 2-3 houses than back in the car to move down the road a bit. Living in an apartment, I get 2-3 a year because they either don't bother or don't walk up to the second floor.

Oh well, more candy for me.
That is all. *expletive deleted*ck you all, eat *expletive deleted*it, and die in a fire. I have considered writing here a long parting section dedicated to each poster, but I have decided, at length, against it. *expletive deleted*ck you all and Hail Satan.

Dearest Wifey called me at work about 4.  I was to pick up an extra bag of Snickers bars on the way home.

Turned out she'd eaten half the stash.

Growing up we'd hit every house in the neighborhood.  (100-150 houses).  When we got to be around 13-14 we started going twice (going home and having a back-up (generally last year's) costume, or trade with another guy.   Since the neighborhood was overflowing with kids (early-mid 1970's working class area), the homeowner's couldn't keep up with how many ghosts or goblins had been to the door.   It was only when mom saw a couple of us changing costumes that the "twice around the block" scheme ended.

Parents didn't buy candy except for Passover/Easter and Halloween so you had to get enough to last until the next holiday.

My street is the main drag into the neighborhood and there's no sidewalks on my side of the street.  The other streets get hammered on Halloween, but I've only seen 6 so far tonight. (4pm - 8:20pm).  Parents must tell there kids to hit the side streets and stay off this one because of all the traffic.

Which means I've only given out 6 Reese's Pumpkins from the bag of ~30.   =D =D
