I'll try to provide some suggestions if you want to e-mail it to me. I hated all the resume writing portions of my business English classes but the info has definitely come in handy. I just re-wrote my Mom's resume a few weeks ago.

The key is in your statement above. You have to separate the paid experience from the field.

You want to highlight the things you did in a way that they are of use to the place you are trying to get hired by.

Otherwise, they focus on the "field" and will put your resume in the round file because you have no relevant experience.

I've been on the receiving end of resumes for a long time and garrettwc is right.  Most any broad-ranging experience can apply to any career field (think project management, leadership, etc.).  The technical skills are different, either people have them or they don't.  I would need more information, like current career and future career, to help in further detail.
