I am so majorly peevaged at ebay...
« on: September 04, 2007, 06:32:23 PM »
A coupla years ago, I bought a reloading press. From a guy's estate. Another shooter told me that it was a Texan. I just thought it was cool.

I'm cleaning out part of my basement. I listed it on ebay.

It was up to about $100, and they pulled the plug.

The reason: I called it a Texan.

Well, did a little looking, and it turns out that it, in fact, is a Texan Model 101 T-11. And it's actually a rare one.

ARGH.

I hate idiots. Or I hate the SOB who looked at it, decided that it wasn't either a single-stage or a shotshell press, and sent some sort of rambling irate note to the ebay folks....

The ebaydrone sent me a note telling me not to call it a Texan as the reason why they pulled it.

eBay never ceases to amaze me with their ignorance.

What's wrong with calling a Texan brand press a Texan?

Next thing you know, they'll get huffy about Lyman Alaskan scopes...  rolleyes

Put it up on Gunbroker.  Why let the commie bastards at Ebay have any of your money?

What Wmenorr said...

If you tried to sell some brass to go with the press, they'd yank the listing.

I see it's back online as a Texan now.  grin

If I didn't already have a C-H linear 4-stage, I'd bid on it.

I'm so happy I'm running out of things to sell on Ebay. I've never seen a 'flea market' so hostile to the people buying stalls - a feedback process that's punitive to sellers but not to buyers (with mediation being a joke), Paypal jerks around people all the time, allows buyers to make their feedback 'private' (hell, allows anyone to make their feedback private), make it easy for people to fake their location (sold a set of Criterion DVDs to a guy in Austin - only it turned out he was in Turkey and that address was his cousin's - he didn't like the shipping price I quoted), etc. etc. etc.. And they have most people over a barrel because they're the only game in town.

I was doing ok selling little figurines to (presumably) middle-aged and older women around the country, until I ran out and started liquidating DVDs ('got Netflix, do I really need all of these...?'). Women, never a problem, paid immediately. DVD buyers - slow paying, iffy feedback on their end, just waiting for the first whiner.

Why would someone support those Commies?

List stuff on GunBroker instead.

I can't sell vacuum tube amplifiers on GunBroker.  Nor can Bogie sell his non-gun stuff, so he'd have to set up at least two separate accounts on online auction sites that support what he's selling. That means a GunBroker account with fees, an eBay account with fees, maybe a UBid account with fees, and perhaps an AuctionArms account with fees.

I sold a lot of gun stuff on eBay, but even more non-gun stuff.   I don't like eBay's knee-jerk reaction to the Virginia Tech shootings, but I have a lot of non-gun stuff I still plan on selling - ostensibly on a non-gun auction site.  Craigslist is ok, but some really weird people crawl out of the woodwork there.   shocked

Yeah, the craigslist folks want stuff for free. And for you to deliver it to them.

Or they buy it, and then try to change the price. Sorry, but I don't need any beads.

Is it possible that Oleg would consider allowing folks to post for sale items here?? My local gun board, http://www.mnguntalk.com/index.php , has a section for non-gun related items. There is also a section for gun related items.

Not a bad idea....

But then again your target is small.

I don't see a reason you can't try to sell things "face to face" with your friends on forums.
Simple as putting what you want to sell in your signature, or maybe Oleg wouldn't mind a thread or two about it every so often.
Who knows.

Is it that big of a problem?  I've purchased a bike via craigslist, and tried to sell an old appliance (nobody responded), so I don't have a lot of experience with it.  A lot of folks in the local mtb group buy/sell bikes and bike stuff through CL frequently without complaint.  Just curious...
