Eddie Murphy "Delirious"
« on: December 07, 2011, 01:25:44 PM »
I just happened upon this series of Youtube videos of Eddie Murphy's "Delirious" show. There's seven segments altogether.

I'd forgotten about this. It's some of his best work.

Definitely NSFW and not for those who don't like swearing.

I'll have to put that on for background while I'm working in the shop later.

I used to have some Richard Pryor albums that we would sit around and play back in the precable days.

Is the show where he makes the comment about when the band comes over the fish quit swimming?

Quite raw, as I recall. There is a great segment about his uncle trying to start the barbeque.
Also, the 'ice cream' part about the kid on welfare. Good stuff.

Ah yes Raw is the one I remember.

His impersonations are great--Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Elvis, Ralph Cramden (Jackie Gleason). The guy has talent, even though I don't like every other word being "f" or some variation. It's like listening to Tony Montana after awhile.

You can get both Delirious and Raw cheap on DVD.  I heard a rumor he tried to keep them off the market as he was trying to maintain his now Disney-esque clean image.

I gave a copy of Delirious to my youngest brother.  His wife had never seen him when he was dirty.  Her reaction was funnier than the video.

Man, I'm really out of touch. I only remember Eddie Murphy as being foul-mouthed and dirty. When did he clean up his act?

He didn't....everyone else just got dirtier.....
Impressed yet befogged, they grasped at his vivid leading phrases, seeing only their surface meaning, and missing the deeper current of his thought.

Go look him up on imdb.  You have to go back to the 90's to find anything vaguely racy.  At a glance it looks like the last R rated movie he made was Beverly Hills Copy III in 1994.  Since then it's been a ton of kids movies, with the occasional PG or PG-13 outing such as Dreamgirls or Bowfinger.

Is he still doing stand-up?

If he's doing kids movies and PG-13 movies, that would explain why I thought he was dead. ;)
