what could use a gig and 1/2 of data in one day?

kids i phone  doesn't do facebook etc  something just started munching data

Agree about video. 1.5 gigs is nothing for a video, even one that's compressed. An flv file (which is what's used on YouTube) that's several minutes long can be 100 to 200 megs.

Also, could you have inadvertently started running a backup program that stores your backed up files on your drive?

Yep. Youtube, Netflix, or maybe some video or video site that does not have good compression.

Especially if the phone's settings are wrong, and Wi-Fi doesn't kick in when in range of home, or other hot-spots, so all the Internet data is going over the 3G/4G carrier 24/7...

Or conversely, the phone is acting as a Wi-Fi hotspot, and other devices are getting onto the net over 3G/4G through it.

you tube is possible but i've asked as well as looked at her history and find no evidence.  this kid has not needed to lie to me.  something i'm happy with and that simultaneously strikes terror in my heart as she grows up.it just started the 10th outa the blue. heck shes home and has the wifi for her connection. is a cloning possible? how about not closing out web browsers?

Another possibility, her phone might have done some big app store auto-updates. All the apps she has, if it's a gig or two of them, and most of them had updates, it just downloads the whole app again and re-installs it.

Kids love the apps/games and tend to load up the phones with them. Which then means lots of updates if the phone checked in with the apple app store, and then saw all the updates..
