Making Manedwolf cry

Manedwolf, I believe it's you who loves K31s
No, it's not mine, i'd never do that to a lovely Swiss firearm.

Picture's not showing. Did someone Bubba one?

If so, I can't imagine why you would. A St. Marie scope mount, sure, it turns into a sniper rifle from hell.
But otherwise, it's a magic rifle.

In the past, apparently some people had bubba'd them into .308's, which is just stupid, since 7.62x51 is about 8000psi higher than 7.5x55.

I do. And...WTF?

Why on earth would someone do that? Eh. Maybe they forgot to register it as an SBR and they'll get arrested for ruining a K-31. Tongue

...or just smack themselves in the head with it when they fire it, which would work, too. It's got the ballistics and recoil of a good, stout .308! Mine sure kicks against my shoulder. If someone thinks they're going to hold onto it one-handed, they're an idiot.

Someone needs to be severely beaten about the head and shoulders....

Which is pretty much what would happen if they tried to fire that, especially one handed.....   angry

It's got nice lines at least...

Be interesting to set something like that up to shoot large bullet semi-frangible rounds - Wonder how it'd work as a breaching gun.

Put it this way...

From right to left here are 5.56x45, 7.62x51, and 7.5x55, the caliber of the K-31. (The one with the nickelcoated bullet).

You wanna fire that out of a pistol?

Sure, why not.  People fire larger rounds out of Encore handguns.  Not so big from the Contender in terms of pressure, but much larger in terms of bullet weight.

Hope that "thing" isn't here in the States.

Or at least I hope the owner has the proper NFA paperwork for an SBR.   undecided

Out of all the things that you could turn into an SBR (legally), a K31 certainly wouldn't make my top 100 list. Seems like a waste.

Found it. Was used in "Hellsing". Neat idea. Although I'd hate the thought of an innocent rifle being cut down like that.

You wanna fire that out of a pistol?

You'd definitely want to handload for that application. All that wasted powder in such a short barrel.

Just take the 7.5 Swiss case, and just fill it up to the top with some fast Bullseye pistol/shotgun powder so it'll be more efficient. Probably could squeeze a little more in if you go right up to the neck and let the bullet seater compress the load a bit...

Yeah, that's the ticket...  grin

I've seen Mosins cut down like that in stories on the Russian mob. Never seen a swiss one chopped tho.

I wonder what the threads are on the Swiss action. I wonder if they can be re-barreled for restoration or barreled to build an American sporter. undecided

Chopping down Mosins goes at least as far back as the 1917-22 Civil War. IIRC it had something to do with wielding the weapon more easily on horseback for those massed cavalry engagements. At such distances, accuracy is not an issue, but it still makes one wonder how they kept the thing under control.
