My refurbished Vizio has been playing nearly non-stop for the past 5 weeks.  Amazing picture, decent sound except ... the TV has a popping sound ... very loud, no telling when it will happen.  Even if the sound is turned down low the pop is very loud ... some days we hear it just once (usually 3-4am) and others it will pop a couple times w/in minutes.  Vizio says they have never heard of this problem and I find that hard to believe.  I have about a week to return it (w/in 90 days) ... Anybody got any ideas I may not have tried ...  ???

First time we heard it I thought somebody was throwing frozen eggs against the house ... then I thought someone had busted a window ... woke the wife and I out of a sound sleep ...   :'(

I should add that although there is plenty online about the 'Pop of Death' where an LCD TV stops working after it pops. This one works fine except for the occasional loud POP !

Is the pop coming from a mechanical source or from the audio/speakers?

Is this a good option for the price? http://www.amazon.com/Cisco-Linksys-WRT54GL-Wireless-G-Broadband-Router/dp/B000BTL0OA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1329329017&sr=8-3

Huh. Price went up as I was posting the link.

Plenty good for what you're doing.  That model has been out for a while and has a good track record.  Excellent price, too.  Free shipping is a bonus.

Cool. I ordered it, along with 5x component cables and an optical cable for the soundbar. I appreciate the help.

It's coming from the speakers ... if it were mechanical ie. heat caused expansion or contraction it would have torn itself apart by now ... it sounds like someone slamming a book on a tile floor ... it's that loud  :O

Does it happen on all inputs or is it isolated to one?  (i.e. HDMI 1 or 2, the composite input, or the coax input?)  Trying to rule out if the pop is originating in the TV audio circuit or is coming in on the audio feed from the source component.

So far we've only played the DVD once and it did not do it.  But sometimes it only does it once a day ... it does it on the HDMI input hooked to the Cable /DVR and the Roku ...

Do the cable box and Roku share an HDMI input? In other words do you use the same input and switch cables, or maybe have an external switch for them?

No, the TV has 4 HDMI ports ... hooked up to Cable, DVD, and Roku, w/ one open ...

Does it do it if you are using the TV in tuner mode?

We never use the TV in Tuner mode ... all channel changing is w/ the cable/DVR box ...

To confirm... It doesn't matter which HDMI input is selected (either cable box or Roku), with you being unsure of the DVD input because it doesn't get used much.

This is going to sound strange but it's worth a try... leave it on some day with the volume turned all the way down, or at least very far down, and see if it does it at the same volume.  Do the same thing with it muted (not turned down, but muted with the Mute button).

Vizio.  Mine rocks.
I have a Vizio as well. 47", 120 hz. Picture is fantastic. Got it on sale at Target and paid for it with CC rewards. Quite pleased with it, so far. The only thing I really don't care for is the lighted Vizio logo.

I think you can turn the logo off from the settings menu. Mine can, anyway.

If you can't there's always the duct tape option.

Unable to set up wireless network with router. Only deviation from setup wizard is line from wall to modem is coax. Not gonna call TW support. Looks like I have to upgrade TW hardware or switch providers per the U-Verse thread. =(

It's probably the WEP security issue.  Does it ever get to the point where it asks you for the encryption key?

Not sure. I got to router setup, but couldn't get my PC to recognize the connection. I'll take another run at it tonight.

How old is your PC?  If it's more than a couple years old it may have a NIC that's not capable of WEP security protocols.  In that case you have to switch the router to WPA or WPA2.  I had to do that with a machine I used to run.

It's WEP compliant then.

Hmmm... was it seeing the router but not letting you get on it, or just not seeing the router at all?
