I couldn't agree more.  The first MRE I ever ate was the pork patty and I didn't have any hot water for it so I had to eat it straight from the bag.  It was horrible.

stored properly, and rotated FIFO, MREs are worth having around.  They make a great lunch when camping or hiking.   I buy the components, and put together my own choices in baggies.

The C-Rats we were eating were eaten back in the late 60s/early 70s at the latest so they were fairly "fresh."
