It has been a while, but I don't recall my schools doing anything for Halloween.  The teacher may have done stuff in their classes or the students did something, but I don't remember the schools doing organized events or celebrations.

I'm trying to remember if my daughter's schools ever did anything and I don't recall them doing so. But that's not the point, the point is the reasons they gave in canceling.

In public school kindergarten, we went to school in costume. In Catholic school we didn't dress for Halloween, but there was no condemnation that I remember . . . in one of the early grades, there was an "All Saints Day" pageant & costume contest, celebrated the day after Halloween. Kids were dressed "as saints." My costume was a full suit of armor (cardboard, cut to shape and spray painted silver) with sword and shield - St. George, of course.

It seemed to be a crowd favorite - parents and older siblings being the crowd, of course. Unfortunately the judges were NUNS  [barf] - and they thought otherwise.
Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

In a public school we attended (siblings & I, Mom was a TA), they'd have a parade through the neighborhood with most of the children in costume.  That was ~'62 - '68.

Can't remember when they stopped, it was sometime after my sister (youngest kid by 5 years) graduated, so mid '70's or so.

A little levity, so I didn't want to put it in the Israel/Hamas thread. I think this is the same guy who did the Trump vs Biden stair challenge video. People with low IQs (and CNN, but I repeat myself) got upset about this "fake news" about a CNN reporter in Gaza.

Every day is Halloween in the USA.
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

Probably a relative of the politicians making the decision.  Or at least they subcontracted to a bad artist.

If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

I am glad to see Lewis's Woodpecker made the list, why should anyone's woodpecker be singled out as an appropriate name for a animal of any kind. We don't have other body parts with names, we have tits and boobies but they aren't person specific so let's stop using Lewis and his woodpecker as it can be shaming to him and his descendants. What happened to him in the bird wars does not need to be commemorated with a bird name any longer. ;)

Maybe, but I'd say no.

More likely someone who saw an opportunity to enrich either himself or a close associate - public works projects are a GREAT way to turn public funds into private profits.

THE BIRDS ARE RACIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

https://twitchy.com/amy-curtis/2023/11/02/american-ornithological-society-to-change-exclusionary-offensive-bird-names-n2389299
OK, I'm convinced.

But I'm also disturbed - the scientific names of birds - indeed all species - are in Latin.

LATIN IS THE LANGUAGE OF ROME, AND ROMANS OWNED SLAVES! MANY, MANY SLAVES!

All scientific names must - MUST - henceforth be changed. Equity demands it!
