Yes, I think you are right.
The traditional Christian understanding was that homosexual sodomy was something that anyone could be tempted by (obviously to varying degrees)... this sort of temptation was considered perverse, but common to mankind. When society frowns on it, it tends to be relatively rare. When society lauds it, it is common.
Perhaps I am wrong, but I think this is exactly what we are seeing today. The older generations self reported sexual "orientation" has barely budged, perhaps because their moral views are still fixed, but younger people have declared them selves to be perverts in truly astounding percentages as Christian sexual morality has died.
Perhaps, but that's not what I was getting at.
I joined the Army during Don't Ask, Don't Tell. It was reasonably common for someone in Basic training that decided they'd made a huge mistake to go to the Drill Sgts. and say they were gay, knowing they'd be kicked out. Generally speaking the Army didn't take your word for it in that situation. At minimum you had to call your mom and dad and "Come out" to them while be watched. Pictures from home or some other evidence could also be used. But you had to provide
something to indicate you weren't just looking for an easy out. Similarly, while I was in high school there were several openly gay kids enrolled, but they generally were like Freddy Mercury, openly gay, and if you wanted to be accepted into the "gay community" such as it was, you needed to act it. The community acted as it's own gatekeepers. I was being a little sarcastic about sucking dick as an entry fee, but I saw several kids who thought they were gay kicked back to the straight masses for not actually being gay, just saying they were.
In contrast, a kid today that wishes to identify as part of the alphabet alliance just has to.......say they are. A lonely teenage girl can just say she's non-binary and get instant acceptance and even praise. It's not like she has to actually BE a lesbian, change how she dresses, acts, who she dates or anything of the sort. She's in the "community" just be saying she is.
That's what I was getting at: Of course you are going to get more young people claiming to be LGBTQwhatever, as you made it a privileged status, and removed any cultural requirement for them to actually BE LGBTQwhatever.
Make young folks suck a dick before you accept their proclamation of "I'm gay" and I bet you get way less gays.
