There has been some discussion here about kratom. It will take some time for the process to go forward and I will be interested to see if the Feds impose a Schedule 1 classification. Most of the time, the recommendations are accepted.

It's making a dent in opioid sales.
Kratom has effectively no hallucinogenic effect, and the volume that must be consumed to approach anything like that is ridiculously high. I've got a little stash of it in my medicine cabinet, that gets pulled out maybe once a year if I tweak my back unbearably.
I wish it were easier to grow in the US. It's very temperamental and requires a tropical climate. It'd be nice to get millions of plants growing in the wild, all over the place, to make a ban or sched 1 classification impossible to enforce.

Anybody else get a mental image of a DEA agent saying "Hold my beer..." for this? =D

Like cannabis?

Well, the bans on other drugs have been so successful, with no negative side effects, that this is probably the best possible call!

More issues involving kratom.

You would think that the government would need to prove something is actually dangerous to ban it vs. just claiming it has no medical use and it might be dangerous. That is pretty much the definition of alcohol after all. Should we reinstate prohibition? I’m also not comfortable with HHS and the DEA being able to ban things, you would think that should require an actual bill being passed in the house and senate and sign into law by the president.
I don’t know a whole lot about Kratom, maybe it should be banned, maybe not, but I don’t think Government agencies should be making law.

I lost all my kratom in a boating accident.

Dude, there was a lot of kratom, and a whole bunch of mag dumps that night. I can't say for sure what happened.
