Question about 1970s gun magazines, Rhodesian mercenary ads?
« on: November 23, 2012, 08:40:19 PM »
I have found a book that claims gun magazines carried ads for mercenaries, for the Rhodesian war. Not just Soldier of Fortune, but Shotgun News and Sports Afield, etc.

Anybody remember those?

The magazines, the war, or the ads?  Heck, I have trouble remembering what I had for supper, and that was just an hour ago but I do remember some talk about folks thinking about going AWOL from Vietnam and fighting in Rhodesia.  Just don't know what the impetus for that was.

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

Yes. I don't remember them in the outdoor magazines, but Soldier of Fortune for sure and I think also Guns and Ammo, both of which my friends and I read at lunch break in Junior High and High School.

Here's something I don't quite get. One of the sources I'm reading about Rhodesia claims that federal law prohibits Americans from serving in foreign militaries. Which is odd, since we allow foreign nationals to serve in our military.  ???

No, actually I suspect the academics writing these books are ill-informed or just not thinking straight.
