When I first started dating my wife, she liked this video game called "The Lost Vikings" starring Balog, Olaf, and..... err, some other viking whose name I forget. It was a really crappy game, and I used to give her a hard time about it. This was around the time I started hanging out on THR, so I started using Balog as a teasing joke, and it's just stuck ever since.

Mine is my email address: tallpine at something.com

So why did I choose that for my email?

When I was in the Navy full beards were permitted. Mine goes almost all the way up to my eyes. Picked up the nickname wolf very quickly. Someone mentioned that I almost looked like a werewolf. Wolf stuck but I liked werewolf better and have used it as my internet handle since way before the internet was cool.

I used to be from Massachusetts.

I joined THR when I moved up here, and was reading an old post about someone being a Mass-hole...picked it until I came up with a better name...over five years and counting....

I'm Ex-MA Hole on all of the forums I read, so it will be staying for a bit...

Just a South American mammal (predates dire wolves) that's rather endangered that I thought was pretty darned cool. I'd worked with some conservation things about them.

If real life was like DnD that'd be me. Except frost spells; less lawn damage/burning your house down, and once they're all slowed down I could go out and push em around. grin

I did a random google search and learned that my previous name was apparently an MJ reference.  I wanted to change it quick and I wanted something memorable and bland, that didn't scream "chick on a guy-dominated board" bc that's just odd to me (no offense intended to Ladysmith, just not my style).

I walk the Mackinac Bridge every Labor Day.  It's a nifty Michigan thing.  Ergo the BridgeWalker.

Actually I walk bridges whenever I get the chance, it's just fun.

How do you dork wood?  And how is sawdust made when one dorks wood?  Or do we really want to know?

I like math, and it was the first thing to pop into my head when registering here. It has since become the moniker under which I register for any web forum now. A side benefit is that it usually isn't taken.

I got this nickname when I moved from Lilliput to Brobdingnag.

And believe it or not, I spelled both those names correctly, from memory.  Now if only I could remember some useful stuff.

Fremboe sounds like an actual name, but isn't.  I think it read somewhere that it was a travel writer's nom de plume, but he was E.M. Fremboe..

My "Hollywood" call sign from when I was in the Army in Germany.  6 is always the callsign for the commander/leader, and since I led 2nd Platoon, I was "26".  I've used this from when I first got back in late '91 (on AOL), and it's been my handle ever since.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

I had a late-developing birthmark on my leg. When I was seven or so, it was about the size of a half dollar. By the time I got to junior high my leg was covered with thick black hair from about the ankle up to mid-thigh. Some guy said it looked like a monkey's leg, and I started using that as a nickname.

It made me uncomfortable when I was dating but, oddly enough, it pretty much disappeared after I was married.  rolleyes

My screen name is the same as a medium-sized bedroom community in Snohomish County, 27 miles north of Seattle.  Three guesses as to where I live and therefore how I picked this name.   I use it pretty consistently across the interwebs.

I adopted the nickname of Pappy back in high school. I've always been the blacksheep of my family and "Pappy" Boyington (Blacksheep squadron) was the ultimate blacksheep, so it seemed to fit and has stuck ever since.
