A man got out of the vehicle and approached the mother, pointed a gun at her hip and looked inside the stroller, the release said.

When the man tried to grab her son the mother was able to grab the gun from the man. She attempted to shoot him but the gun did not go off, the release said.

A second suspect then got out of the vehicle, grabbed the baby and got back into the car, according to the release.

She needs a gun.  Even a knife would have probably worked in this case. 

An Amber Alert was issued for the boy and hours later two people were apprehended in Carrollton, Georgia, in a vehicle matching the description from the alert. The child was found unharmed inside the car, police said.

I think she is extremely fortunate that she got her son back.  I wonder how many times this happens and we don't hear about it.

I wonder if this was a real honest to gosh stranger danger kidnapping or some sort of custody/domestic dispute.

If she knew their names, that would explain why they tracked them down relatively fast.

Lunatics with baby rabies maybe?   

I was wondering about that, too.  That is the typical scenario when someone abducts a newborn from the hospital: a young(ish) female, often single, who has been faking a pregnancy or has been trying to get pregnant for years without success.  They often have mental health issues up the wazoo, and a lot of them pose as hospital staff.
