Kirkland Sumatran Coffee
« on: January 13, 2016, 07:58:00 PM »
For the coffee drinkers with Costco memberships, I can highly recommend the Kirkland Sumatran coffee. I'd been buying their Colombian beans as my everyday coffee (interspersed with Death Wish whenever it goes on sale), but saw the Sumatran at my local Costco for the first time last week and gave it a go.

It is a strong blend, and apparently the Sumatran beans are supposed to be less acidic than other beans (perhaps our resident coffee expert, Millcreek, can jump in). I only have a week's experience with it, but I think it is less acidic, which is a good thing for me. I don't do any prescriptions, but  I take generic Xantac because I get GERD symptoms on occasion. So strong coffee, less acid? I'm sold. Plus I really like the flavor. $17 / 3lb bag.

Apparently it's not always in the stores, so I bought a few bags this week to stock up. :)

They just use raccoon to keep it cheap.

My wife and I are really fond of the Indonesian coffees like those from Sumatra, Borneo, New Guinea, Java and Sulawesi.  These coffees excel when roasted dark, and that is the reduced acidity that you perceive.

Yes, I should have said "dark" not "strong", though I make it strong. :)

Brings an entirely new meaning to the phrase "crap coffee."
