Obama has had more consequences
« on: June 10, 2011, 11:51:19 AM »
Remember this?

That's the Dalai Lama being escorted into the White House via the back door, passed the garbage bins, rather than via the front door, as is befitting a foreign dignitary.

Well, here's the result.

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/Religion/post/2011/06/dalai-lama-china-marx-communism/1

Quote
The Dalai Lama, who withdrew from his political position as head of the Tibetan government in exile earlier this year, is still the face of the cause to most Americans.

And:

Quote
Midway through the conversation, His Holiness, much to their surprise, told them "as far as socio-political beliefs are concerned, I consider myself a Marxist ... But not a Leninist," he clarified.

Tibet was a human rights foil against Chinese (along with the Falun Gong practitioners in west China, and the Tienanmen square incident, and Taiwan) to lower their eyes in the world community.

Tibet is now "over."

Watch for Obama to throw Taiwan under the bus, either in the next year, or if he wins re-election, in the next 5.

I'll believe it when I see him wearing a Che t-shirt.  A real Buddhist can't be a real Marxist; there's a bundling board in that bed.

Mahayana buddhists can very much be marxists.

It's the Theraveda buddhists that are the "capitalists" of enlightenment.

How can any Buddhist be a materialist?  The Buddha didn't say detach from capitalism.

Tibet has long been 'over'. Anybody looking deeply into the Dalai Lama's affairs as a political leader would have known that.

Did I ever tell you that my father in law raises llamas?  I've been after him to call one Dalai, but so far a no go.

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

Llamas are mean, they kick and spit.  What you really want is an alpaca.  Smaller and a better temperament.

What about chinchillas?  Raising chinchillas at home for fur and profit was all the rage back in the 50's.  Did not see a lot of chinchilla millionaires, though.

Amazing how quickly this thread degenerated. Is this what Rocketman was talking about when he said to take a look around and get a feel for things? Y'all just hijacked this. You ought to be ashamed.

MrsSmith, on APS thread veer is to be expected.   Some would say it's a feature, not a bug, but that saying doesn't exactly apply.  In any event, if thread veer doesn't happen, something's gone seriously wrong.

Often there will be two or three different conversations from a single thread. Every now and then the original topic is one of them.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

A yawl is a sail boat with a mizzenmast stepped aft of the steering post.  Not to be confused with a ketch, where the mizzen is stepped forward of the steering post.  The two do, however, share common gear, such as their boarding device:

the ketch-yawl ladder.

A yawl is indeed a sail boat with the mizzen stepped aft of the rudder. And y'all is a southern term used when addressing more than one person in an informal and inclusive manner. Capice? :)

A ketch and a yawl also sometimes share another common feature: the yankee in his Sperry Gold Cup topsiders who can't tie his fabric covered fenders to the lifelines with a proper clove hitch. Myself, I prefer a sloop built in the lightest possible design, rigged with Dacron sails and the only additional ballast allowed aboard beyond spares and crew is the cooler stocked with beer and rum, which will be placed below, amidships, and stowed properly so as not to get in the way of quick sail changes when rounding a mark or tacking under a competitor. But that's just me.

And yep, I picked up on the threadjacking real quick and find that it appeals to my own ADD and short attention span tendencies. As does being cute and cuddly with razor sharp teeth.
