Anyone who is surprised by this has never really paid attention to how their dog communicates with them.

This study was ordered by our cat masters to divert the human's attention from the truth

Once I learned that you train yourself to get a desired response from the dog, it got a lot easier to train a dog.

I heard a comedian claim that if an extraterrestrial species landed on earth in a city park and saw owners walking behind their dogs in the park and then cleaning up after the dogs, they would come to the conclusion that the dogs were the masters.   ;)

Well, dogs haven't figured out how to manipulate us into stopping cutting off their balls yet...

Well, we ARE pretty sneaky about it.

The long-prevailing opinion was that animals don't think. Now we know they can think, but they're smart enough to not talk about it.

I think that comedian was Seinfeld, in one of his "bits" where he was onstage in front of an audience.

IMO, dogs are more perceptive of body language than most people.

Anyone who has been around a dog that is good at begging for food knows they can turn it off and on at will.

I always like that Larson cartoon of the cows standing on their hind legs in a field alongside a road smoking cigarettes.  One of them yells CAR! and the next panel they are just standing around on all fours as usual as the vehicle goes by.

My dog has learned that the belly rub position is a most effective way to get attention.

Yeah, unfortunately Seren has decided that the best way to get attention is to wind up and whack the crap out of me with one of her paws...

And given how strong she is, how large her paws are, and how big her claws (I call them meat hooks) are, it's a very effective way of getting my attention.... while often causing considerable pain.

Steve's latest deal is sticking his Dachshund skinny nose under my hand or forearm and then yanking up really hard and fast,  I guess to get me to pet him. Unfortunately he all too often does it when I have a drink or mug of coffee in my hand. Yesterday morning I nearly had my first ever "coffee on the keyboard" incident. It was still a "coffee in the lap" incident though.

My Weimaraner gently paws at me when he wants attention. Almost like he is sticking his paw out to be held.

Josie also taps with her paw and shovels with her nose sometimes. We also know how to get her attention, though. If she sees us having smoochy-time on the couch, she just has to get in the middle of it.

SNOUT LIFTING!

Oh my God that brings back memories of Mason. He was a champion snout lifter when he wanted attention.

My Mom was on her computer once and also had a cup of coffee in her hand when Mason did that to her... She was quite surprised...

Mason was the same breed as Seren, and a male, so even bigger and stronger than she is. When he snout lifted, you KNEW that he had lifted his snout!

Dozer always just put his head on my lap for attention, which was fine except for the drool.

Well, what all of this really comes down to is that dogs are the most amazing creatures to ever inhabit this earth.
