New Jeep Scrambler coming late 2018?
« on: August 23, 2017, 10:48:07 AM »
Years ago I had a CJ7 but always thought the old scrambler CJ6 was a great concept. I tried to buy a used one on a couple different occasions and always regretted not getting one when they could be got. They've become crazy collectable.
Well, the rumor is it's finally coming back. AND with a 3.0L turbo diesel!
Too bad they decided to add it to the back of the already longer Wrangler Unlimited =( instead of the standard Wrangler body (which would be much more maneuverable and appealing to me).

CJ8 was the Scrambler.

CJ6 was a flop in the US, slightly bigger than a CJ5 and smaller than a CJ7. CJ6 was produced from 1955-71.

Good catch, thanks.
As long as we're talking old Jeep series, I also liked my old Cherokee Chief. 1973 2 door tankwagon. Hard on gas (360ci 4 BBl carb) but would go damnear anywhere with the original Quadratrac transfer case and locking diffs.

I want a 80's Wagoneer but with modern GMC engine and tranny. Think LT1 swap. Way to expensive to do, but I bought a powerball ticket.

Only if it's a transmission. I knew that charby didn't mean a transgender*, because that would be hateful.  =)

*Is transgender still acceptable? They didn't change it to undocumented man or undocumented woman, did they?

My old one was like this but 360ci with native American stylized accent striping.

The old quadratrac transfer case was a genuine wonder. Had a little lever under the driver seat for low range and an awesome vacume control diff lock in the glove box with a cool label that said "WARNING- engage only after all other attempts to free stuck vehicle have failed".
I used it for fishing, hunting , pulling a trailer with firewood, and always had a dog in back. The chainsaws leaked all over the back and helped limit rust. It had perfect weight distribution for 4WD and would grind through all kinds of offroad muck and snow.

I like them too, why can't they build an affordable modern 4x4 with that much useful interior space.

Mine was a '78.

But that switch in the glove box didn't lock the diffs. The Quadratrac was full-time 4WD, so the default arrangement for the transfer case was unlocked (I don't remember if it used a viscous coupling or a mechanical differential). That switch locked the transfer case, not the diffs.

IMO way better if they used the Wrangler and not the unlimited.
Because its Jeep, they'll have an insane price on em anyway.

My 2 door Wrangler works just fine for me. Hell the back seat has been sitting in the shop for over a year now.
I kind of like the idea of a 2 door Scrambler but I've become right fond of the hauling capacity and protection of the factory hard top on my Jeep.

Ugly how? Looks like it ought to look. Like a regular Jeep, but for men.

I've been driving Jeeps since the 1950s, and I've owned at least fifteen over the years. That thing is an abortion. Here's what a Jeep pickup should look like:

I would love to find one of those as a "fun truck" because Kaiser's like RKL's are getting pretty ridiculously priced these days. Maybe the J20s are too?

Yeah *expletive deleted*ck them.  That's not a jeep pickup nor is it a scrambler.
Scrambler is a long wheel base CJ7.
The 2 door unlimited is the closest they've been to a scrambler with anything they've put out.

I'm glad you guys think it's ugly. It saves us from hearing about it when you drop 40k on one and discover it still has a Fiat/Chrysler drivetrain, build quality and reliability.

The glory days of Jeeps are long past.

You either like the "styling" of a HMMWV, or you don't. Something about it being so ugly that it's just awesome.

Unless you're talking about the wheelbase, or other practical considerations.

This reminds me. Did Lamborghini take cues from AMC, or was it the other way around?
