I saw LawDog link to that the other day.  I got a giggle out of it.

Seriously, though, am I the only dude in the world that doesn't powder his wedding tackle?  Did I miss some bonding experience with my dad growing up?

I'm a little bit late to the party. Not as late as Justin, but I only became a member of the Brotherhood of Powder about three years ago. I'm still using the yellow, haven't found the need to "upgrade" to green or blue yet.

I've been using yellow Gold Bond or its generic substitute for years during hot, humid summer days. It works pretty good. I think the other colors are a bit stronger.

apperantly dad is not a member of this cult. i read the blog to him (i was reading and laughing hystarically and he wanted to know what the hell was so funny).

he did mention that in college, they used to pour some in some random victims underwear and then point and laugh as the victum ran down the hall screaming.

I could maybe understand some baby powder if it was really hot and sweaty wherever you live.  But menthol Gold Bond powder...?  Why?

Yellow = Good when hot and humid out.

Green = "Fire in the hole".

A "buddy" (ahem) of mine was stupid enough to powder himself...the "buddy" shall remain nameless (ahem)...I, I mean he, applied some green when I, I mean he, was out of the yellow, and well, unless you routinely stick a blow torch in your underwear, I, I mean he, would STRONGLY recommend against it.

I, I mean he, was in the shower, which fortunately is a shower head on a hose, with it on ICE COLD, and they were still buring.  I, I mean he, threw the bottle of green away, so as to not EVER make that mistake again.

At least that's what I heard.....

I use the blue in my boots.

Gold Band fan, here.

I usually use the generic, less-powerful knockoffs due to cost.

But, if I go on travel and space/mass is at a premium, I spring for the real Yellow deal for the 'boys.

I have never used Green or Blue, but next trip I will "go Green" in the name of science.  And my 'boys.

Also, keep some in the gym locker.  Helps when you are doing shrugs (increases grip, like chalk)  and if your anti-persperant ever dies (breaks to bits or something), GB will square you away.

Why use Gold Bond?  Well, if you have ever performed outside manual labor in the SE USA or other places with high temps & humidity, you will understand that you can start sweating at 0630 and not quit until you hit the showers at 1830.  You never really dry out, you are just varying degrees of hot & sweaty.  GB, along with loose clothing and going commando, help avoid heat rash/crotch rot/swamp nuts/whatever.

Heat rash "down south" can be debilitating.  I know from experience.

GB not only prevents heat rash, it can make a case of heat rash more bearable.  The initial hit of GB on heat rash is like boiling Icy Hot and is, uh, "bracing."  But, it simmers down after a few minutes.

Trust me- If you have ever seen what happens when the moisture and humidity are NOT taken care of, it is not pretty...

That is why most of us wore no underwear during Vietnam- Anything to stay cooler and drier.

That injury can be so debilitating it will take soldiers out of the field and into the hospital, much less the average child or adult back here.

I've lived in the SE all my life, have performed manual labor from early in the morning till evening in the middle of the summer, etc and so on.  I have never had a problem with "the boys" and sweat.  Never used any powders, salves, or other magic potions either.

I wonder if some people are just more susceptible to these ailments.  I know that when I am riding a lot more on my road bicycle in the summer, and I am wearing my road shorts with the chamois, between the shorts and the saddle, it really seems to trap the heat and moisture in.  Consequently, I am far more prone to get the fungal/jock itch type of complaints during that time of year.  I have found that the Gold/Green Bond to be pretty effective in drying out the area and hopefully preventing or treating the problem.   Since Chris and others here are also serious cyclists, I would be interested to hear if they have the same issue.

Not to mention that the cool and bracing feeling gets my heart rate up to aerobic levels before even getting on the bicycle!   cheesy
