The good shoot thread
« on: May 07, 2014, 03:10:49 AM »
We seem to spend so much time arguing about questionable defensive gun uses, I thought it'd be nice to have one thread to highlight all the lives saved by good shoots. Kind of an APS version of the Armed Citizen column in the NRA magazines.

Tonight we feature a man who defended himself against an armed robber. Of particular note is that he acted after being ordered to get onto the ground. I wouldn't necessarily intervene to stop a grab and go style robbery, but I absolutely would fight back when ordered to do something that would prevent me from fighting back later. Good shoot, even if he is batting .500.

(debbie downer)  to me a "good shoot" is consistantly hitting the tuna can at 150 yds, not having my life threatened and crapping my pants while i defend myself.  i guess i'm trying to say that i find the term objectionable, although i understand what you mean by it.

Pretty much this.

The societal costs saved after the fact are incalculable.

Rationality Rebooted is a good resource for defensive use of guns.  He posts sporadically, but he's got an interactive map with the incidences he's reported plotted on it.  He's got the data organized by location and by type of crime thwarted.  It's a good site, worth a look.

I don't think Balog coined the term.

Some testimony from Daddy McShootsemquick. Interestingly, other reports have said the wife was also armed, though I haven't heard if she did any shooting.

In case anyone wonders, this was on the opposite side of the metro area from where I live.

So you live in West St. Louis?

Er, no. I live in Edmundson, in St. Louis County, several miles northwest of the city of St. Louis. This happened in Bevo Mill, on the South side of the city of St. Louis (in the city limits, I believe). So I'm northwest, and they're southeast, about 18 miles from me.

On the south side of Saint Louis in the baddest part of town ...

Car jacker stopped by armed citizen in Venezuela. Guy may be a business owner? Looks like he was locking up his shot then leaving for the day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkN08CGEloU

That last video was used in our ccw course as an example of a good shoot. We were given the disclaimer that it wasn't in America (no information given on the legal consequences) and the shooter was a business owner who was suspicious of that vehicle as he believed they had been casing him prior to this incident. Situational awareness saved him that day.
