Didn't do so bad.
« on: December 09, 2011, 11:47:30 AM »
Mentioned earlier that Strings is usually right about some things.  He said I would do fine my first time shooting and said to post the result.  So here it is.  First time on a range with a .22.  Strings, if I got the caliber wrong, I'm sorry.

And yes, he created a small monster; can't wait to get back out there.

Good shooting.

At what distance were you shooting.

Glad you are a convert.

Now the fun begins trying to decide what you want to buy that you can't afford.

It is an obsession.

He created a perfectionist monster.  I saw the flaws and am disappointed but will do better next time.
Distance was ten yards?

That is a good job for the first time and a good distance to shoot at.

It is all fundimentals and practice.  It is a perishable skill.

Yep.  Practice, practice and more practice.  Hope to try a litter further distance next time.

If you are shooting a pistol that is the perfect distance.  Most self defense type shootings take place at that distance or less.

It was Strings' pistol he allowed me to use.

For pistol I would stay right around that 10 yard mark.

Good shooting.

Question - what are the big holes from?  Who put them there?

Comment - relax and take your time when shooting.  Take time to figure out what you just did and if you are happy with it how to do it again, or if you are not happy with it how to make it better next time.  There's no need to empty the gun before you put it down to look, or to relax/rest, or to stop for time to think.

More important comment - make Strings teach you how to buy ammo, and then make him take you out shooting again.  Then make him teach you how to go shooting with folks who are not Strings.  The more range buddies you have the more often you can go shooting. =D

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

Hey you kids!! Get off my lawn!!!

He can be my target!  >:D

Good job, terp!

Its all about practice, and getting into the flow. There is no such thing as a perfect shot, but you can get pretty darn close. Just take each one at time and have fun.

The nice thing about shooting, when your starting out, is its one of those sports where you can literely see yourself get better each time.

Next thing you know you'll be bugging strings to shoot whatever monsters he has lying about.  =D

And then you'll be buying one you yourself, and then another, and then another...

Wait, you sure you want to get into this?

Yes, it was 10 yards...

>Question - what are the big holes from?  Who put them there?<

Guy a couple lanes over let her try his .40...

>Comment - relax and take your time when shooting.  Take time to figure out what you just did and if you are happy with it how to do it again, or if you are not happy with it how to make it better next time.  There's no need to empty the gun before you put it down to look, or to relax/rest, or to stop for time to think.<

She's got a little way to go with that, but she certainly didn't spray 'n' pray

>More important comment - make Strings teach you how to buy ammo<

She bought her own ammo this time!

>make him take you out shooting again<

Oh, I have no doubt that this is going to be a regular activity...

>Then make him teach you how to go shooting with folks who are not Strings.  The more range buddies you have the more often you can go shooting.<

Planning on a range trip with Rev, Bedlamite, and Spoon...

SO leaving that alone! >:D

Strings, are ya' trying to encourage her or scare her off? STFU!

Terps, you're doing a grand job of it! Word of advice? Listen to what ALL the guys have to say (and they ALL have advice for you, believe me), but do what FEELS right to you - right up until you take a professional level course and are told the right way to do things. And I'd try to find a female instructor who has hands-on experience - and do check her credentials, anyone here can tell you how to do that - to spend time with you. You can do this. You have a whole pack of supporters, right here.
