Looks promising. But, one thing for sure,  I will NEVER travel with Tom Hanks.

Looks like it could be promising. My only complaint is that it might be a bit early for the dual Bofors mounts.

And decidedly WAY too early for the quad mount Borofs with radar direction at 1:47.

In fact, I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think Fletcher class destroyers ever mount quad Bofors, only duals.

Well, it's slightly better than hanging out with Matt Damon. Somebody is always rescuing him.

The YouTube comments have been fun:

Was that supposed to be a radar scope he was looking at?  I didn't think sonar had anything like that.

Did the trailer imply the submarines were following the convoy?

Some branch of the military should just grant Hanks honorary Captain rank already.

World of Warships: the movie

Do you play?

What platform?

Legends on XBox myself.  PC and iPad are too far dated to play there

Later war also saw full air coverage of the Atlantic routes.  I am curious when this took place.  Did destroyers have radar?

From 43 onward, yes for the vast majorly of US and RN DDs. A mix before that with the RN leading the way  although many USN & RN never did get it installed during the war.
Note though that most convoy escort was done by Destroyer Escorts (DE) once enough were built to free up destroyers for classic destroyer duties with the fleet. IIRC most DEs had radar. Classic fleet destroyers such as the Fletcher and Tribal classes were actually less suited to anti submarine duties due to their poor turning radius* and armament being mainly suited to anti surface and anti air. Also add in escort carriers (CVE) into the equation.
Also note I said most. Many conveys if not most had some sort of anti surface force assign to them which could also include a mix of destroyers, light and heavy cruisers and battle ships and cruisers.

*They were build for speed, DEs on the other hand only had to mainly work within relatively slow convoys. U-Boats could turn on a dime so something that could turn with them and maintain contact was needed. Speed not so much.

Now with radar there's surface search radar and there's air search radar. I think most if not all American DEs had surface search but only a few had air search radar. I believe the same applies to RN DEs.

Tom Hanks is upset that the movie went directly to streaming video.

I'm with Tom, since it's coming out on Apple TV. Way to limit the audience.

The latest issue of Naval History magazine has a story about the movie. I've not read it yet as it came right before I left for a mini-vacation, but the cover blurb said how they were so painstaking in their attention to historical detail...

Uhm... OK.
