Time to buy more ammo & MREs.......again. =(

I am becoming convinced that neither political party wants to deal with the National debt.  To the dems,  everything is peachy, move along, nothing to see here....to the repubs, it's ......hey, do they even consider it an issue anymore?   All I get is crickets......

From the article, this:

Quote
In response, the Communist Party ordered Sergej Krajgher, a party stalwart from Slovenia, to see what had to be done to repair the country’s mounting socio-economic mess.

After two years of study, Krajgher’s commission in 1983 released its report, which correctly assessed that Yugoslavia needed to get its economic house in order to avoid financial, and then political, collapse. Specifically, Krajgher recommended the sell-off of unprofitable state enterprises, allowing more market forces to work, and above all comprehensive fiscal reform to get Yugoslavia off the drug of foreign loans. This was all excellent advice.

Its effect, however, was zero. The report was ignored, and Communist officials never made any effort to seriously implement any of Krajgher’s solid recommendations.

reminded me of the Reagan's Grace Commission.

At thy right hand pleasures for evermore.

Or even Simpson-Bowles.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

Or even Simpson-Bowles.

Which was also mentioned in the article.

What are they going to do send us more of their crappy cars?

I needed a mod to change my signature because the concept of "family friendly" eludes me.
Just noticed that a mod changed my signature. How long ago was that?

I think Balog was referring to the Yugoslavian Civil War.  Picture Sarajevo writ large.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Eh...

I get the points being made, but there's too much apples and oranges. Way more people, way more land, way more resources and geographical distances larger on orders of magnitude.

Despite what's going on, the U.S. looked a lot worse off and crazier back around '68, or the Great Depression or even the Civil War for that matter.  "Never say never" and all that of course, but even when I feel worried I realize just how damn far we have to fall before we even get into the 2nd much less 3rd world multi-faction civil war failed-state territory.

And of course, we collapse Yugoslavia style, the whole world is going to be an absolute basket case.

I promise not to duck.

The situation in Yugoslavia during the time it broke up, was nothing at all like what is happening in
America today.  There are no lessons to be learned here.

America is and always has been uniquely situated in terms of geography and resources and etc. There are of course no exact direct parallels. Doesn't mean there aren't lessons to be learned and applied from the Wehrmahr Republic and Argentina and Yugoslavia and etc etc etc.

Honestly curious, do you have any personal connection of experience with the situation in Yugoslavia at the time?
