Despite a drastic drop in the rates of violent crime, 56% percent of those polled thought that gun crime is on the rise.
It's easy to forget that what we think of as common knowledge ain't necessarily so. As a proponent of gun rights, it doesn't surprise me that we have to correct ignorance about firearms, or firearms laws. I don't think as much about the ignorance about crime, in general.

To quote Mark Twain, "If you don't read the newspapers, you are uninformed. If you do read the newspapers, you are misinformed."
Or as my dad says, ""The only part of the newspaper that you can trust is the sports score page. They have to get that right, simply because there are thousands of witnesses."

When the news spends weeks detailing a major crime commited with a gun, and barely mentions anything else (much less actual current crime rates) it's not suprising people think "gun crime"* is up.
*still the stupidest catagory of crime yet.

A "gun crime" is putting a black plastical stock on a Sharps

A Colt's Dragoon in stainless, with green laminate stocks.

Gun crime appears to be on the rise only because the liberal media wants it to be. Ever notice if a gun is used to commit a crime it front page news on all the major networks and repeated 5 times a day for a week? Someone used a knife to rob someone or a baseball bat and it may get a news story but it dies quickly. Guns are EVIL, not the poor misguided person who picked up the weapon.

That'll do the job if you can find a fence post to rest it on ;)

I thought that was a Walker. The heft of which could be lightened, if you made one out of polymer. And scaled it down to 25 ACP.

Just don't load it when you're drunk.

That's one way for AZRH44 to buy one, I guess... =D

I would guess that during the same period that gun crime decreased, media coverage of gun crime has increased significantly.

Media coverage of most things has increased significantly. Internet. Cable news.
-
True, there are more media outlets so people may be more likely to be exposed to a particular story.
I was thinking more along the lines of an increase in the percentage of time/column space/etc a given news source spends on negative gun related stories.
