Because your therapist now has to break therapeutic confidentiality and report it.

What if I tell my child I look at therapist porn?
-
What if the patient is just doing his job?

I really really wish these idiots would get their heads out of their buttholes when it comes to minors sexting.
Teenagers should not end up with a child porn rap sheet for being stupid teenagers.

Yeah serious mental gymnastics involved when the DA has to jump through numerous hoops to charge a minor as an adult so they can hang him on child porn charges.

and they actually seem to think it will solve the problem.
I am of the opinion that some people have mentally blacked out what it was to be a teenager.
"Adults say not to do this thing... DO IT!!!" - Every teenager at some point in their development.

A lot of jurisdictions have diversion programs to keep kids from having any record for setting cases. I know of others where they use some creative prosecution to avoid felony and serial charges for such cases. Then again, there was that one prosecutor who threatened to charge the defense attorneys with possession if the demanded copies in their discovery packets...

Just about every state has a Mandated Reporter law. Teachers, Medical Professionals, and yes, even Foster Parents are Mandated Reporters. One of our resident tile crawlers can probably explain better, but if we even suspect any type of abuse, neglect, or sexual exploitation, we are required by law to to report it to each state's version of Child and Family Services.
A therapist is a mandated reporter.
And yes, I wholeheartedly agree with Chris in having a diversion program because teenagers will be teenage knuckleheads. However, that should be a one time "Get out of jail free"/"Scared Straight" chance. Two strikes and you're out.

If you live in California and view child porn, don't tell your therapist do it anymore.

Hadn't heard about that.
Do tell.
How did it end up? In front of the judicial ethics panel with the prosecutor being flogged with barbed wire?

Can I point out that having the court personnel play legal hide and seek in order to maintain some level of common sense in dealing with such cases isn't exactly the hallmark of a quality system?
