Mifflinburg, PA or Pittsburg IL --> Anyone close?
« on: March 26, 2007, 03:54:30 AM »
My wife and I are looking for another dog.  My wife has found two breaders that she likes.

I want to rule out traveling from NH to find a puppy mill, then having to turn around without a dog.

I'm just not the puppy mill kind of guy.

Anyone local to these areas that can scope a place out for me?  The IL one looks legit, but the PA one has me scratching my balding head....

Thanks.

This week?

A Schnauzer/Bichon mix called a "Chonzer".  Mrs Ex saw one in pet store and fell in love.  I can't determine if it is a puppy mill dog or not, and will not pay $900.00 on a mutt if I'm not 100% sure.

To me, it's a mutt.  Which is good.

My wife wants something smallish and cuddly, like Bailey was (25lb Wheaton Terrier/ Lapso Apso mix).

Problem is that it needs to be good with little kids, cats and other dogs.

In NH 99% of shelter dogs seem to be some sort of hound mix (no cats), and in MA everything seems to be some sort of pit bull mix (yeah, I know, pit bulls have a bad rap, etc, don't care, don't want to hear it, and don't want a pit bull)

$900 for a mixed breed?  Holy cow! Does it s**t gold turds?

Small and cuddly? Shih Tzu fit that, they are good with kids and other pets if raised with kids/pets. King Charles Cavalier Spaniels are small and cuddly, not sure about being around kids and other pets, but everyone I have been around is pretty happy go lucky. Boston Terriers are fun personalities too, except they don't like extreme heat or cold very well.

She said:"You don't pick the dog, the dog picks you". She was right. Go to the pound, if a dog picks you, take it home.

Close , but not close enough , Mifflinburg is about 120mi one way for me , if that were round trip I'd take the hike.

Thanks-

I have sort of decided that the PA one was a puppy mill.  What's the expression?  If it looks like one and smells like one, then it is one?

The Pittsburg one may or may not happen.

Thanks y'all.
