What was really funny was that some group (her parents or another "activist" group) actually held a fundraiser/memorial pancake breakfast at IIRC a Denny's.

See the links above.  It was at least two or three different leftie groups that have done it, and I think at least one continues to do it.  Hence the mocking and ridicule.
