tl;dr: English prof sees ROTC cadets performing maneuvers. She panics, crawls under her desk, and calls 911. Then gets slapped (figuratively) by a university officer for being a nitwit. So she writes a letter to the local fishwrap.

Lots of lolz in her hyperventilating. But there is this:

LOL... UND is a Federal "Land Grant" university. Good luck with trying to make a stink and prevent, disrupt, or remove ROTC activities.

She calls the maneuvers "unnecessary," but also claims she's worried about school shootings and "tensions." A bit of a contradiction, there, unless she thinks that ROTC are the ones doing the school shootings.

I doubt she really worries about something as rare as campus shootings, or that she was in any way frightened by the ROTC. I'm not sure she really called 911, though she may have done it just to pitch a fit.

Exposure therapy is exactly what this woman needs to consider regarding the students she seems so concerned about. They need to get over their childish fear and grow up.

.......but i guess that only really applies to this professor.

If it's true she hid under her desk, perhaps the ROTC could do maneuvers nearer her office and then maybe she'd stay under her desk all of the time. That way she won't have the opportunity to continue to befoul the minds of the eloi in her classes.

Yes. That's what happens when someone claims to have been "triggered" by the military-industrial complex, or by guns, or by the patriarchy, or whatever. They get more website traffic than Facebook.

In a way, I sort of agree with one of her points...

It would be best if things like this were communicated to the University community at large and, especially, to local law enforcement. That could significantly reduce the possibility of a tragic and completely unintended interaction.

Her general attitude, though?

It always amazes me when you can read something and actually be less informed than before. This is a sentence from her writing page:

That is partly why I have increasingly coming to the view that most of these university "incidents" are only in the minds of the teachers and administration. Most of the students don't care and are not really affected aside from a small number of mush heads.
