Overcrowding at Zion National Park

Huh. If you would have asked me to pick a National Park that suffered from overcrowding, Zion would not have even made the list. It's a beautiful area, I just had no idea it has been getting that much traffic.
Coincidentally, I read an article the other day regarding a survey of moving companies. The number one state they were taking goods to, was Utah.

I've been there at least three times, but that was in the 90's. It got pretty crowded in July. Tons of foreigners.
My favorite state.

Could Utah be the new Ayn Rand Colorado?

Utah is an awesome state. All my interactions there, both with the general population and with their government (CCW, fishing licenses) has been first rate, friendly, and polite. Outdoor activities are awesome, all the campgrounds I've visited have been well placed and well maintained. If St George wasn't so hot in the Summer, I'd likely consider it as a second home location as it would be close enough that I could get back here to look after my dad with a long day's drive.

I like Utah a lot. I have been there on business/lecturing several times. I once thought long and hard about taking a risk management position at the medical school there.

I went to Zion a couple years ago on my bike. The highway leading in was a parking lot, with more than a few busses.

It was about 10 years ago when I went there. Zion wasn't all *that* bad (late June, I think it was?) but Bryce Canyon was really crowded.
Even when the main section of Zion was crowded, the Kolob Canyons area was not.
