Google Maps responsible for invasion of Costa Rica?
« on: November 25, 2010, 12:23:54 AM »
It seems that a Nicaraguan commander either accidentally or intentionally misread the Nicaraguan/Costa Rican border on Google Maps, and led his troops into a town in Costa Rica, where the troops removed the Costa Rican flag.

The commander isn't taking the heat, nor is Nicaragua. Google is.

The mildly amusing story is here

I hope we don't have some of our nukes targeted on Moscow, Idaho  ;/

The notion of a military commander (I assume company level) having to rely on Google as his source of maps for military purposes simply astonishes me. Okay, it was Nicaragua so it SHOULDN'T astonish me ... but it does.

Yeah, Google should rightly be embarrassed. The Nicaraguan army should be ashamed.
